Last week, 171 players filed for free agency by the November 19 deadline. Of that group, there are 23 Type A free agents and 49 Type B free agents. John Grabow, a Type A free agent, and the Chicago Cubs have already agreed to a new 2-year, $7,500,000 deal. Now the December 1 and December 7 deadlines are quickly approaching. The teams have until December 1 to offer arbitration to protect their right...

Veteran utility infielder Wilson Betemit is the latest former Atlanta player to find refuge with the Royals after reaching agreement on a minor-league contract. Betemit, 28, spent 9½ seasons in the Braves’ organization before a July 2006 trade sent him to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Subsequent trades sent him to the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox....

Just a rather awful sports year for myself. Most of the teams I legit hate are fucking winning it all in every sport. But you know what? At least I'm not THIS GUY (in the picture above). YES. He is wearing a Big Ben Pittsburgh jersey, waving a terrible towel for the YANKEES. I like these people who cheer for teams in every time zone. I have never rooted for a professional winner in my lifetime, but...

It didn’t take long for the Royals to surface in baseball’s offseason trade rumors. Merely hours after the New York Yankees secured their 27th World Series title, a report claimed the Royals had agreed to send outfielder Mark Teahen to the Chicago White Sox for second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman/outfielder Josh Fields.

World Series television ratings are at their highest levels in five years. The New York Yankees' 8-5 win over Philadelphia on Saturday night in Game 3 received a 9.1 rating and 18 share, Fox said Sunday. It was up 49 percent from the 6.1/13 for the Phillies' 5-4 victory over Tampa Bay in Game 3 last year, which also was delayed by rain. This was the most-watched Saturday Series game since the Chicago...

Trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers two games to one, Chicago White Sox manager Al Lopez called upon his Game One starter, Early Wynn, for Game Four. He thus again bypassed his long-time ace Billy Pierce to bring Wynn back on three days rest. Pitching on three days rest was no big deal in those days, though, and Lopez had limited Wynn to seven (shutout) innings in the Game One rout of the Dodgers. Walter...
