In a piece at River Ave. Blues yesterday, Mike Axisa wrote at length about the Yankees DH situation. There's a faction of the fan base that would like to see the team promote from within, and make Cuban defector Juan Miranda the regular DH next season, while giving frequent half-days off to the old-ish lineup by allowing them to DH on occasion. Without thinking about it too much, I agreed with this...

From Anthony McCarron : While Matsui was earning $73 million in salary over seven seasons in pinstripes, he helped build Yankee - and Major League Baseball - business in Japan and the Bronx, whether by prompting Japanese companies to buy advertising signs at Yankee Stadium or drawing Japanese tourists to the stands. Matsui is a free agent and wants to return, but do the Yankees risk losing more than...

Besides just being an overall better team, the Yankees also put more money in the city treasury than there cross-town rivals. From David Seifman : The Yankees can now legitimately claim to be twice as good as the Mets -- at generating cash for the city. The World Series champs produced "at least $200,000" by selling seats in the luxury suite turned over to the city in the new Yankee Stadium,...
