OKLAHOMA CITY - The Knicks plan to present their case to the NBA this week for the ability to use the disabled player exception to fill the roster spot lost when Cuttino Mobley retired with a heart condition last month. SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Knicks are awaiting the official word from the NBA about the roster opening created by Cuttino Mobley's retirement last week. The league has to decide if the situation calls for the Knicks to receive a disabled player exemption (DPE), which would permit them to sign a player for up to 50 percent of Mobley's $9.1-million salary.

Mobley has been diagnosed with diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a potentially fatal heart condition. Before being traded to the Knicks he took an MRI that most likely saved his life. It was aware that Mobley had a heart condition but noone knew it was this serious.
