More photos » by Sue Ogrocki - AP Browse more photos » I have very little subjective observation of Desmond Mason 's defense to fall back on. I was not a particularly devout connosseiur of Milwaukee Bucks basketball much of this decade, and I only got a few non- Kings Thunder games in 2008-09. Mason does have a solid defensive reputation, though. What do the numbers tell us? If Mason will...

Michael Ruffin, Pastor of Fitsgerald, Georgia, and owner of the blog On the Jericho Road , recently brought my attention to a constitutional amendment being brought before Georgia Baptists for vote during November's Georgia Baptist Convention (GBC) at First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Georgia. The proposed amendment (bold) reads as follows: Article II. Membership. Section 1. This body shall be composed...

John Lucas will be attending the Miami Heat's upcoming training camp. View full size photo uploaded September 23, 2009 This is something that qualifies as a transactions post as well, but a lot of NBA teams are finalizing their training camp rosters, so I thought it would be worth compiling the news into semi-regular (or maybe it'll just be this one, who knows) posts rather than fanshotting every single...

In this tough economy, any job for a player these days is a good one. And there is talk the Thunder, with 14 guaranteed contracts and no worries about the luxury tax, might be a rare team that has no problem with a 15-man roster. That's why veteran forwards...

Why the NBA's luxury tax matters now ... and later - ESPN - John Hollinger with a good rundown of what the sinking luxury tax numbers could mean for player movement. He has Washington on a list of teams who will have trouble with the tax next summer. None of that is news to us, though. My (our) only hope is that Abe decides in the face of a poor economy and poor tax figures that he wants to be a buyer....

The Hedo Turkoglu thing has such momentum right now that I'm not even going to try to fight it. We said what we had to say on the subject a couple days ago . I'll let the sidebar posts and the approximately one billion media references speak for themselves. Enjoy the whirlwind! However I did want to get in a couple simple posts. The Rasheed Wallace one is right below this. This one covers a question...

Here's a very handy list of all the free agents that will be hitting the market in July. They even have a page sorted by position . Why don't we pool our collective wisdom and start picking some favorites? As you make comments, I can update this list. So far I've just tried to narrow the list down to guys that interest me and start lumping them into vague groupings. (r = restricted | eto = early termination...

Sorry to go all first-season Gilligan's Island on you, but it seemed an appropriate way to introduce the review thread for Shavlik Randolph, Michael Ruffin, Martell Webster, and heck, even Ike Diogu if you're so inclined. None of these guys played enough to make their stats meaningful in any greater sense (I highly suspect per-48 stats for guys who played 4 minutes) so I'm not putting up tables. If...
