Phillies 8, Mets 6: Johan Santana threw eight innings of two-run ball and then turned the game over to the bullpen with a 5-2 lead. No problem, right? Not quite. Duaner Sanchez, Joe Smith and Pedro Feliciano gave up six runs -- the first five of which came before anyone got an out -- and the Mets choked away the opener of a three-game set that will decide first place, at least for the time being....

Spurred by a comment by overkill94 over at Dodger Thoughts, I tried to see which other pitchers pulled off the same sad unique fate that Joe Smith of the Mets had tonight. That is, taking the loss, while not giving up a hit, walk, or a hit batter, as well not recording an out.

Ouch. The Phillies scored six runs in the 9th inning off the triumvirate of Duaner Sanchez Joe Smith and Pedro Feliciano to defeat the Mets by a score of 8-6 tonight at Shea. Chad Durbin got the win, and Smith took the loss. Brad Lidge closed it for his 22nd save. One of my Keys to [...]

I got a memo that reads in part: To support Jim*, we have on-boarded Joe Smith*, also from the Miami office. [...] As Jim has been onboarded , Bob Jones* will be rolling off the project on Thursday. You cannot make an object like on board (with or without a hyphen) into a verb by simply adding -ed or -ing , like efforting ("We are efforting to complete the job"). This is part of the trend in business...

Ah, the trappings of big-league baseball: fame, fortune and, for one New York Met, a pink "Hello Kitty" backpack. As a young Mets reliever, Joe Smith has been subjected to the team's initiation rite of carrying the backpack — a favorite of school girls everywhere — to the bullpen each day. Mets closer Billy Wagner presented him with the bag, the website Gothamist.com reported, and he proclaimed to...

This is the sixth blog in a series of blogs by Linda Mattacks, who trains people how to sell within their comfort zone I’ve just taken a sales call. It could have been funny if it wasn’t so out of order. The guy introduces himself with his full name (Joe Smith - hmm) and [...]

I've always wanted to travel with Hello Kitty luggage. Aside from the obvious conversation starter it could be, I just always figured that if the airline lost my luggage that when they asked for the description my bags would stand out like a sore thumb. Also, my bags would be REALLY easy to spot in a baggage area after my flight.I'm secure enough to carry Hello Kitty luggage.

Well, it's the ultimate accessory if you're Mets reliever Joe Smith. Because he missed out on rookie hazing last year, Smith must wear a pink Hello Kitty backpack every time he walks from the dugout to the bullpen. Mets closer Billy Wagner presented him with the bag on June 19 and proclaimed , " It's not Hello Kitty, it's Hello Smitty -- mee-oww !" And Smith has been living up to the demand: Recently,...

The Mets overcame rain delays and a blown save to defeat the Phillies by a score of 4-2. Joe Smith got the win for the Mets, and Chad Durbin got the loss for the Phils. A few notes: Carlos Beltran hit a solo homer, his 13th of the year, in the third inning to put the Mets [...]

I’ll begin this with a disclaimer. I understand how annoying those Monday morning QB-types are who constantly second-guess moves made by the manager. I understand that Duaner Sanchez was not to be used last night, and manager Jerry Manuel had already spent Joe Smith, Aaron Heilman, and Pedro Feliciano in his bullpen. He didn’t have [...]

Now that Jerry Manuel has taken the helm, the first question he answered was that he wanted to redefine the bullpen roles. The new Mets manager has said that Duaner Sanchez is the Mets setup guy. Joe Smith and Pedro Feliciano will be situational relievers, which leaves Aaron Heilman and Scott Schoeneweis the two without definable roles. Claudio Vargas will be out of the bullpen as the long reliever....

The Mets got what they wanted out of John Maine. He went deeper into the game on fewer pitches and improved his record to 7-5. His line was: Pedro Feliciano, Joe Smith, and Aaron Heilman worked clean through the last 2.1 innings of the game. Carlos Delgado hit his 11th home run off [...]
