The long list of injured Bruins grew a little longer last week when Tim Thomas, in net for Team USA at the World Championships, wrenched his left knee in a qualifying game against Team Canada at Halifax.

Team USA had about the best starts you can think of in a tournament. But Canada quickly grew a 3-0 lead before the United States roared back and tied them 4-4 in the third. That is when Dany Heatley buzzed a one timer past Craig Anderson (who replaced Tim Thomas in the third) with just 47 seconds left to play. Things got a little testy at the end of the game with a few roughing calls being

... machine, out for 74 games of the team's 82 games, the Clippers had a porous front-line of Tim Thomas, Josh Powell, Nick Fazekas, Paul Davis, and Thornton. Not even the legendary Red Aurbach or the ring master Phil Jackson would be able to lead that team to the playoffs. Without Brand, it was another horrifically assembled Donald Sterling team that had no where near the talent to even say...

Before this year, Tim Thomas had never experienced the NHL playoffs. Now, he's hooked.

Ahhh, Wade. The Flamingo Kid... Don't sign him in Phoenix, Wayne!! Phenomenal work by the folks at Sports Illustrated in their NHL stars separated at birth feature. My favourites are posted here. I especially love the Ovechkin look alike with James Bond actor Richard Kiel. Tim Thomas a dead ringer for Drew Carey. Iggy and Tyson? Who knew? The rest of the SI feature can be found here .

... shut the door. Then the Canadiens got a break and boom, they're on their way to a win. Boston's Tim Thomas is a good goaltender, but he wasn't great like Price, who had two shutouts and is giving Montreal a lot of hope that it can win a Cup. On the other hand, Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock had to replace Dominik Hasek with Chris Osgood and that enabled Detroit to finish off Nashville....

It happened awhile ago, but Game 2 really got me thinking a lot about shot quality. The perception persists that the Habs stole the game, that they were outplayed by Boston. Boston held the edge in shots, 39-31, and 21-14 at EV. That's where the positives begin and end for the Bruins. There were two breakaways (Kovalev and AKost) stopped by Tim Thomas. The Bruins had none. Letting highly skilled...

... quarterfinal against Washington. Otherwise, the Canadiens will face the New York Rangers. Tim Thomas stopped 30 shots for Boston, which fell short in its bid to overcome both 2-0 and 3-1 series deficits for the first time in team history. "The character of this team can't be overemphasized, I don't think, for what we battled through all year and even in this seven-game series," Thomas...

... trailer. He made Zdeno Chara look foolish in his flailing attempt to disrupt the chance and beat Tim Thomas for a crippling goal that effectively ended Boston's playoff run. The Canadiens will wait to see who awaits them in the Eastern Conference semifinals. This Jekyll-and-Hyde routine won't fly from here on out. The Habs need to put teams away and must keep up the physical play. The Bruins...

Then Marc Streit's breakaway goal at 10:45 of the second, when he stepped around Chara in the Bruins' zone to wriggle free and slip a backhand between Tim Thomas's pads, crushed the Bruins' spirit and shattered their game plan. The Canadiens made it 3-0 on a Kostitsyn-from-Kostitsyn goal, Sergei feeding brother Andrei for a shot from the slot just after time expired on a Chara penalty for holding...
