Then Katie Smith smiled for the cameras, displaying the gold medal she earned with Team USA in the Beijing Olympics.

The U.S. women's basketball team defeated Australia for the gold medal for the third-straight Olympics. This time, USA won, 92-65, giving Shock guard Katie Smith her third gold medal.

HOUSTON -- Katie Smith didn't hang her head after Thursday's 79-61 loss in Houston. In fact, she held it up pretty high. Despite the whirlwind of misfortune the Shock has suffered lately, Smith is staying positive about the rest of the season.

Katie Smith's first three-point attempt -- which also was the first shot of the game -- came from the right corner. The ball sprang hard off the iron, bounced high off the glass and then fortuitously found its way through the twine. "It felt good," Smith said. "Obviously, it was a little long. But the rim caught me and saved me."

Plenette Pierson scored a game-high 23 points for the Shock. Katie Smith added 17, and Cheryl Ford and Deanna Nolan had 16 apiece. Nolan also had eight assists. Braxton scored 10 with four assists and a game-best eight rebounds.
