There are a few positives for the Fever heading into this series, including the leadership abilities of guard Tully Bevilaqua (6.1 ppg, 2.1 spg). The Aussie native already has one title from 2004 while playing for the Seattle Storm. Catchings has said that Bevilaqua's championship experience has led to valuable advice for her 10 teammates. The Fever have also received strong contributions from forward...

Change has been a prominent theme in the nation's capital over the past 10 months. For Mystics fans, however, it's been a regularity since 1998. <p> Washington has gone through 11 head coaches over the last 12 years, and only Richie Adubato (2005-07) has lasted longer than two seasons. This kind of turnover has made it extremely hard to win. In fact, the Mystics have had just two winning seasons...

Whoa there Miguel Montero -- Adam Dunn kindly reminds you that these aren't the pushover Nats you may remember from earlier this year. (AP Photo/Nick Wass) Nationals 7, Diamondbacks 6 : It's getting tougher and tougher to call it a fluke: the Nationals won their sixth straight game on Friday night, coming from behind to defeat visiting Arizona. A victory certainly didn't appear to be in the cards,...

"It Wasn't Pretty." That was a comment the BasketCases heard more than once as we filed ( smiling ) out of the Verizon Center tonight. But it was a WIN . . . and an important one at that. So pretty or not, we'll take it! With the second half of the season now well underway, the Indiana Fever so far have a lock on first place in the Eastern Conference. But the remaining 3 playoff spots are...

Swanny's Stats has the statistics regarding offensive fouls in the WNBA for the 2009 season up to August 2, 2009. The leader in offensive fouls committed is Nakia Sanford of the Mystics, with 14 such fouls. Thank goodness no one on the Atlanta Dream is on the short list. As for most minutes played without drawing an offensive foul, Lindsay Whalen of the Sun is at the top with 553 minutes.... ...but...

Was Enough. For the third game in a row, the Mystics raced out of the blocks at the tip-off to build a double-digit lead over their opponent in the 1st quarter. Tonight it was actually a double-double digit lead, as Washington led the New York Liberty by 22 points, 34-12, at the end of the first 10 minutes. We wish we could tell you that this was the prelude to a blowout, a game that we could enjoy...

Nakia Sanford Friends may think Nakia Sanford's job as a professional basketball player is all play and no work, but the WNBA veteran knows better. For starters, there's no cushy offseason or LeBron James-size paycheck. "We don't have the salaries that the men do, so we actually play year-round," the Mystics center explained, adding that most WNBA athletes spend six to seven months playing...

Not Quite The WNBA's highest scoring team, the Phoenix Mercury , were just a bit too much for the short-handed Mystics tonight, as Washington lost at home for the first time this season, 87-93 . Once again, the Mystics dug themselves an early hole . In fact, at the end of the first period, with the Merc ahead 26-13, it looked as though the game might turn into a blowout. But this is a Mystics team...
