Davan Mani in his My Rants and Opinions blog writes that best finder of talent anywhere in pro basketball today is... Marynell Meadors ? Lot of scouts and GM's tend to get individual players but not try to build a team. In Marynell case, she gets players and builds teams. She likes players who believe in hard work but fair play. When she was Charlotte, she built a solid nucleus of players such as Vicky...

Of the five gallery pictures, three were of Becky Hammon. If there was anything that I didn't expect, it was that Ekaterinburg (2-1) would lose a game in Euroleague. Despite Ros Casares's (3-0) strengths, despite the fact that they are one of the best teams in Europe , I didn't think anyone could beat one of the Russian superteams from the Superleague. However, in front of 2800 spectators in Valencia,...

A new do for Lehning? Shalee Lehning was one of several current and former WNBA players who took part in the Hoops for Hope Game in Ashland, Kansas. The event was scheduled to provide a digital mammogram machine to Ashland in order to provide better protective care for the citizens of five small Kansas communities. Those citizens would have to drive 2 1/2 hours to obtain a mammogram otherwise. Among...

SI.com - Sports Illustrated's internet brach - writes about the game in Ashland, Kansas in which Shalee Lehning took part. Joe Posnanski writes: Among the bad is this: The closest mammogram machine to Ashland is two and a half hours away, in Wichita. Mammogram machines, you know, are used to detect the early stages of breast cancer ? the No. 1 form of cancer for women in the United States. The numbers...

Last year, I did a few posts regarding similarity scores . From the earlier post: Similarity Scores was designed to be a fair way to compare players by their career statistical lines. The idea is "start with 1000" points and then begin to take away points from points of difference. For example, if two players had career steals totals that were 20 steals apart, we would take one point away...

Through following Ivory Latta's Twitter messages, I've figured out that she's playing in Turkey, and now I know where. She'll be playing for Mersin. The link (in Turkish) is here . Last year, she played with Ceyhan in Turkey, and transferred to Israel - a transfer which was probably a straight buy-out of Latta's contract, as Maccabi Rabat Hen needed help. Turkey's season starts on October 24. An update...

That's what I call it. Others call it the "fast break". The "transition game". And Swanny's Stats has some extra stats involving fast break points. Most points scored . Cappie Pondexter of the Mercury is the leader with 132 total fast break points, but Iziane Castro Marques is 4th with 103, Angel McCoughtry is 5th with 91, and Chamique Holdsclaw is 18th with 60. Highest percentage...

You want contrast? Look no further than the Eastern Conference Semifinal series pitting the second-seeded Atlanta Dream against the third-seeded Detroit Shock. The Dream, in just their second year of existence, are making their first-ever appearance in the playoffs after posting an 18-16 record in the regular season, something that was thought to be impossible after they posted just four wins in their...

It looked more like the NHL than basketball, but despite the bumps and bruises on both benches, the Mystics pulled out a must-win over the visiting Atlanta Dream on Saturday. Washington led the entire game and clinched a playoff spot with the 82-64 victory. Head coach Julie Plank was pleased with her defense, which she pointed out held the second highest scoring team in the league to only 64 points....
