It just seems to go back and forth between Fenerbahce (2-0), the winner of last year's TBBL championship, and Mersin (1-1), the runner up last year and winner of the President's Cup game against Fenerbahce this year. This time, the defending champions managed to hold off Mersin, winning 71-61 at home. The box score is here . A write-up of the game is here . Fenerbahce scored the first few points, but...

Last year, I did a few posts regarding similarity scores . From the earlier post: Similarity Scores was designed to be a fair way to compare players by their career statistical lines. The idea is "start with 1000" points and then begin to take away points from points of difference. For example, if two players had career steals totals that were 20 steals apart, we would take one point away...

Ivory Latta greets her new teammates. It looks like I'm a little bit late on reporting on the President's Cup in the TBBL - the Turkish Women's Basketball League. It looks like the Turkish season gets started with the President's Cup, and Mersin - which was swept 3-0 in the TBBL championship last year - gained some measure of revenge with an 86-74 win over defending champion Fenerbahce. Finding a box...

The Indiana Fever shot stunningly well: almost 56% from the field. Ebony Hoffman, the post with the fine three-point shot, hit a new career high. Her team took a big lead early on, making the Mercury's defense look nonexistent; the Fever rang up 105 points in regulation, 116 in OT. And yet Phoenix won. The combination of close competition, with lead change after lead change; individual skills and dramatic...

For most of the season it seemed like a forgone conclusion that the Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury would face off in the 2009 WNBA Finals. After dropping its first two games of the season, Indiana, behind the MVP-caliber play of stars Katie Douglas and Tamika Catchings, ran off a franchise-record 11-game winning streak to take control of the East and from there its status as "team to beat"...

In the third quarter of Game 1 of the 2009 WNBA Finals, the Phoenix Mercury found themselves facing a few problems. <p> For one thing, the Indiana Fever, who were supposed to win games with their defense, were absolutely on fire on the offensive end. Indiana started the frame by hitting six of its first seven shots, a run that included back-to-back treys by Ebony Hoffman and Katie Douglas and...

It took overtime, but the Fever prevailed and will now meet the Shock in the Conference Finals. Down 9 in the fourth, home court (9,655 in the seats) was key for Indy. "I thought every time we started to make a rally, the crowd really got behind us," Fever coach Lin Dunn said. Tully (see, I told you the Lib need an Aussie) had a great extra period to make sure Catchings effort (24pt, 16reb,...
