Following is an Associated Press college basketball preview about Iowa, led by former Butler coach Todd Lickliter. I thought the Butler community would be interested: By Luke Meredith IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Iowa coach Todd Lickliter knows the Hawkeyes have been picked to occupy the Big Ten basement this season. The eternally optimistic coach, however, is choosing instead to think of a well-known story...

Iowa forward Devon Archie could miss the start of the season after injuring his right shoulder in practice. Hawkeyes coach Todd Lickliter says Archie was hurt Saturday and is expected to be sidelined for four to seven weeks. Archie is a junior college transfer from Vincennes Community College in Indiana. He averaged 6.8 points and six rebounds a game last season and is expected to be a reserve in Iowa's...

Sam from Schleswig , not his real name, is a frequent contributor to this column. Sam noticed the item I had that said Harrison Barnes of Ames High School, who is regarded as the nation's No. 1 collegiate basketball prospect in the 2010 recruiting class, had narrowed his list of finalists to Iowa State, North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, UCLA and Oklahoma . That prompted Sam to make these comments to me...

Can you believe how much Butler basketball news there is in the middle of the summer? There are FOUR story lines regarding the program, and it's early July. -- Story line No. 1, starting with the bad: Ben Brust, a 6-2 guard from Mundelein, Ill., chose Iowa over the Bulldogs. Iowa is coached by former Butler coach Todd Lickliter. Not only was this a loss for the Bulldogs -- Brust was averaging 27 ppg...

And then The Day of the Wailing and Gnashing of the Teeth? You know how people don't think he'll go down in history as a Hawkeye legend? Our question to you is... what if he already has'? We've...

In the wake of last week's mass suicide defection from Todd Lickliter's Iowa hoops squad, the Hawkeyes suddenly have a glut of available scholarships and a lack of point guards. From BHGP Friend of the Program Mike Hlas comes news that Lickliter may have killed two birds with one stone: High school point guard Cully Vale is set to sign with Iowa . Few players have had their high school career chronicled...

Todd Lickliter says "sometimes it's a little dark before the dawn." Perhaps that's not the most apt analogy.

I guess I'm having trouble buying that "dark before the dawn" stuff in Iowa City. About Todd Lickliter's Hawkeye basketball program, I mean. Like I wrote the other day, I've been watching Iowa basketball for 63 years, and I'd never seen anything like what went on this week. Not even when Dick Schultz was the coach. And he was pretty bad. Four players -- Jake Kelly, Jeff Peterson, Jermain...

A better case for coach of the year is Todd Lickliter, who is doing a marvelous job in building the Hawkeyes into the successful program achieved under the leadership of Dr. Tom Davis, or Ralph Miller. Hoopraker , who may have forgotten what "marvelous" means.

Because I've been busy covering so much negative stuff -- firings, buyouts, layoffs and rumors in the newspaper business -- I've been falling behind in some of the other things I should be doing. I mean, I haven't been paying enough attention to the telecasts, radio broadcasts and postgame shows that feature the collegiate basketball coaches in our state. One guy who seems to be turning into a cottage...

For a college freshman, Iowa basketball player Anthony Tucker sure knows how to get into the news. A season-high 24 points in November against West Virginia. An arrest for public intoxication in December. A two-game suspension by Todd Lickliter, his coach. Mononucleosis in January. Academic ineligibility now. Lickliter said today that Tucker, Iowa's second-leading scorer with a 10.4 average, will miss...

Anthony Tucker continues to be a problem for Iowa basketball coach Todd Lickliter and the entire Hawkeye program. Although Lickliter [pictured at the left] apparently didn't go into any detail in his press conference following the Hawkeyes' unimpressive 58-43 victory last night over Western Illinois, he was more specific in his postgame radio show. When Iowa play-by-play announcer Gary Dolphin said...
