(By Scott Fowler, sfowler@charlotteobserver.com) Basketball is now a far different game for Tyler Hansbrough. Except for rare occasions like Sunday - when he was loudly cheered by many in the crowd at Time Warner Cable Arena even when he fouled somebody - Hansbrough is no longer the focal point of much of anything.

ST. LOUIS — Cole Aldrich had 18 points, 11 rebounds and blocked five shots, helping top-ranked Kansas overcome a sloppy night to hold off Memphis 57-55 in a rematch of the 2008 national championship game Tuesday. Kansas (2-0) led most of the night despite 21 turnovers, but could never shake the scrappy and supposedly overmatched Tigers. Memphis (1-1) closed within three on Doneal Mack's 3-pointer...

Kevin Garnett, Still a Prick: “Garnett wasn’t exactly welcoming to Pacers rookies A.J. Price and Tyler Hansbrough when he visited Indianapolis this summer to film a Wheaties commercial. As Garnett exited Conseco Fieldhouse, Indiana assistant coach Lester Conner asked him to walk over and meet Price and Hansbrough, who were working out. Garnett wasn’t exactly [...]

THE `HOUSE - The Pacers would be a playoff team if they played the Celtics at Conseco Fieldhouse on a regular basis. Danny Granger's first half shooting kept the Pacers from getting blown out and Dahntay Jones' aggressiveness put them over the top in the second half. Jones played with a swagger in the second half. You guys can thank the Celtics for Jones' extra attitude. The Celtics, in particular...

Ben Hansbrough got off to quick start at Notre Dame. The 6-3 guard, a transfer from Mississippi State and brother of Indiana Pacers rookie forward Tyler Hansbrough, had a career-high five 3-pointers and scored 19 points to spark the host Fighting Irish to an easy 86-65 victory over North Florida on Saturday.

A season ago, North Carolina had their One Shining Moment, beating Michigan St. for the National Title and declaring that the ACC had the best team in the nation. However, they lost much of their core roster (including Tyler Hansbrough, Wayne Ellington, Danny Green, and Ty Lawson), making the ACC race wide open. Even with the losses, the Tar Heels will still be in contention for the title. They return...

Tyler Hansbrough's teammates couldn't wait for him to play his first game. They wanted to see Hansbrough, the Indiana Pacers' first-round pick last summer, beat up on somebody other than them in a game.

James Makes Most of NYC Showcase. LeBron scored 33 in his last trip to Madison Square Garden before the free agency sweepstakes begin next year. The Celts suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Suns 110-103 thanks in large part to Jason Richardson's 34 points and 10 rebounds, a performance that came off his worst game of the year. In his first NBA action, Tyler Hansbrough was promptly...

7:15 p.m. kickoffs make for very long Saturdays... The John Wall Era is here : 27 pts and 9 ast in his exhibition debut for Kentucky. Folks who make preseason All-America teams really need to adjust, if they don't have the best player in college basketball on there. (15 years into the one-and-done era, I can't believe that All-America voters still have a bias against freshmen. Wait: Yes, I can.) Boise...

INDIANAPOLIS – Jermaine O'Neal had 22 points and 12 rebounds against his former team, and the Miami Heat beat the Indiana Pacers 96-83 on Friday night. The Pacers traded O'Neal before the 2008-09 season as they focused on rebuilding with younger players. He was animated throughout the game, drawing a technical foul for hanging on the rim after a dunk and later smiling when Pacers fans booed him.

THE `HOUSE - Tyler Hansbrough definitely didn't disappoint in his first game. The rookie out of North Carolina doesn't look for style points when he plays. He just wants to get the job done. Hansbrough looked like a fullback when bullied his way to the basket for 13 points and five rebounds in 14 minutes. Coach Jim O'Brien said before the game that Hansbrough wouldn't play more than 16 minutes. The...

They are rivals in college but their future careers in NBA are in a different direction. Although it can be said that Tyler Hansbrough was more accomplished in college and was even the winner over Blake Griffin, analysts said that Griffin will be a sure thing in NBA but it can't be said with Hansbrough.
