... tomorrow, the long awaited test series against the West Indies. It will be Australia's first test since their [ahem] unsuccesful defence of the Ashes earlier this year. The touring team is relatively inexperienced, with the exception of Chris Gayle (who has returned after his quick trip back to Jamaica because of his mother's heart problems), but I don't imagine Australia will be showing any complacency....

Fast gaining traction in certain corners of the Australian media is the theory that England has just staged the "Great Ashes Heist": that Andrew Strauss and his team were a pretty average outfit who won the series through time-wasting, dodgy umpiring, the assistance of foreign-born players and a doctored pitch at the Oval. For the first time since 1965/66 we head to the final Test of an Ashes series with it all tied up. 43 years ago Australia drew the final Test of the series to retain the Ashes but this Australian team will be going for the win. This isn't the Ashes cricket of that era where nothing happened. The Ashes is going to get the finale it deserves. Apart from winning the toss, England did nothing right at...

It's hard to recall England ever having a worse day of Test cricket. Maybe Adelaide Day 5 in 2006 . Although that begs the question - is it worse to have a horrendous day at the end of a Test? Or at the start of the Test where you have to then play out the consequences in the next four days. But I digress. England's bad day began well before the start of play. The night before, Freddie was ruled out....
