Say it Ain't So, Ricco...

The other day I was all poised to praise Riccardo Ricco, whose two stage wins in this year's Tour were thrilling pieces of cycling. I was going to suggest that if Damiano Cunego could show some better form there might be some hope that we could enjoy a modern rivalry that might offer a pale echo of the great Coppi-Bartali tussles of the past. Not so fast, my friends. Ricco has been kicked out of the...

The bad: Kim Kirchen - Fun while it lasted. Damiano Cunego - Not quite there today. Alejandro Valverde - Who ever said you were a grand tour contender anyway? Andy Schleck - No GC for you. The good: Frank Schleck - Took advantage of the hard working CSC squad today to haul himself up a few spots in GC. Juan Jose Cobo [...]

We all know what happened to them, and with the possible exception of Kirchen I think we know who these guys are. Ranked #10 in the world at CyclingQuotient , Kirchen is the Champion of Fleche Wallonne, the mid-week Ardennes classic with the huge finishing climb. Kirchen excels...

Liège-Bastogne-Liège: Rating the Faves!

Last in a mindlessly repetitive series... And revised in order of preference. Damiano Cunego Rating: ★★★★★ Sky's the limit for the Kid. He gassed himself too early on the Mur de Huy, but with better tactics, Liège is his to lose. Cadel Evans Rating: ★★★★★ Looked completely fab Wednesday. But the less steep finale in Ans tilts the race a bit more to the fast finishers. No way, though, does he get dropped...
