Thor Hushovd has deceided not to go to Beijing. He has still not recovered after the Tour de France, where he needed antibiotics to cure an infection.

Mark Cavendish continued to enhance his reputation as cycling's new sprint king with a fourth stage win, becoming only the second British rider to win back-to-back stages. The quick run-in to Nimes was again perfect for the sprinters, and the old guard of Erik Zabel, Thor Hushovd and McEwen once again had no answer to Cavendish's speed in the final 100 metres.

In spite of a relapse of the illness which kept him out of the Norwegian championships, Thor Hushovd started Friday’s stage of the Tour de France. He remains third in the ranking for the Green jersey, given to the competitor with most points in the sprint sections of the race.

Kurt Asle Arvesen often falls in the shadow of his better-known Tour de France compatriot Thor Hushovd. Winning Wednesday's stage in the race, however, also won him the spotlight -- along with a cash bonus from a friend and sponsor.

Thor Hushovd wore the coveted Green jersey after Wednesday’s stage of the classic French bike race. It showed that he had more points from speed stages than any his competitors. Thursday’s steeper sections pitted him against lighter hill-climbing specialists.

Norway's cycling star Thor Hushovd clearly got over the sore throat and cold that had plagued him last week. As in previous years, he pedalled his way to the winner's podium at an early stage in the gruelling Tour de France, and celebrated with a proper skål!

Today there's no intrigue: this is a sprinters' stage. While Thor Hushovd will likely cruise into the Green Jersey, he'll have a lot more company in the final KM, particularly guys like McEwen and Cavendish who've missed the sprints so far. Dunno about twists and turns, but the last 5km are board-flat, as is much of the rest of the course. Meanwhile, it's looking like Alejandro Valverde might hold...
