Deep breaths, and repeat after me: "It's not as bad as last year." One year ago this weekend, the same scenario presented itself: our two biggest rivals were and are the two best teams in college football. The winner is guaranteed a shot at the National Championship. Tennessee has not beaten Florida since 2004, Alabama since 2006. It's not as bad as last year. The only difference this time...

The Knoxville News-Sentinel is reporting that the Vols will face the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. Dave Hooker says the official announcement could come later today, which would be somewhat surprising; the Chick-Fil-A moving on VT locks out the loser of the ACC Championship Game, and it'll be interesting to see if the Gator Bowl and others with ACC tie-ins follow suit. The Vols and...

SEC and ACC Bowls are getting progressively more nuts and unpredictable by the minute. Here's the latest: LSU to the Capital One - This is still pretty much a go. Ole Miss to Cotton - Multiple reports including the Dallas Morning News are saying that Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma State is pretty much a done deal for the Cotton Bowl. Auburn to Outback Bowl - The Outback Bowl may officially announce this afternoon...

Alternate headline: "The Outback Bowl is a joke." There's nothing official out there at the moment, but Brent Hubbs at VolQuest ($), among others, is saying that sources close to the process have given indication that the Outback Bowl will select...the Auburn Tigers. As Clay Travis points out , that's the same Auburn that's beaten only Furman and Ole Miss since October 3, a 2-5 stretch that...

If things go according to plan and Ole Miss head to the Cotton and Georgia Tech wins the ACC championship game, I'd say it's almost a lock that Georgia will go to the Chick-fil-A Bowl. The matchup against Clemson (as the ACC's No. 2) would be a very attractive one and would sell quickly. (Note: I've seen a handful of projections with Virginia Tech going to the CFA, but I just don't see that happening....

A lot of BC fans have cynically scoffed at the ACC's announcement that they've signed an extension with the Chick-Fil-A Bowl . Can you blame them? The Bowl isn't even visiting BC this weekend and passed on a chance to take Matt Ryan and crew a few years ago. I think BC will play in the ACC's No. 2 bowl eventually. It will just take a few things to fall in place. We need the BC rule to keep out the...

(By Ken Tysiac, ktysiac@charlotteobserver.com) The Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta will retain its prominent position in the ACC's bowl selection order through 2013 under an agreement announced Wednesday. After the Bowl Championship Series selects from the ACC, the Chick-fil-A Bowl will get first choice from among the remaining eligible teams. The deal marks a four-year extension to the ACC's existing...
