LAWRENCE | After everything that has happened — the six straight losses, the ongoing investigation into their head coach — the Kansas Jayhawks contend that they still have plenty to play for today against border rival Missouri. In fact, KU senior defensive back Justin Thornton has it all figured out. Beat the Tigers, have Texas beat Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game and have...

Those of us in the Mike Sherman Fan Club aren't surprised by what we saw tonight at Kyle Field. We're not surprised that the Aggies are headed to a bowl in Sherman's second season. We believed when Bill Byrne hired him that he'd gotten the right guy. We've had our moments of doubt this year as the Aggies got blown out by Kansas State and Oklahoma, but in the end, it just doesn't seem possible that...

Sporting News: Amid all the celebration of Navy's victory over Notre Dame this past weekend, service academy administrators accepted a bid in the Texas Bowl. The news kick-started college football's annual postseason jockeying, a process sure to create at least a few compelling matchups. With the help of a spreadsheet and some wishful thinking, here are 10 head-to-heads we'd love to see this holiday...

I was all for Texas A&M getting good again because I like Bill Byrne and Mike Sherman and because it makes life more interesting around here when the Aggies are rolling. When they're terrible, it gets really old hearing them complain. I sometimes think they're happier when they're unhappy, but since I got quite a few relatives like that, I'll keep my yap zipped. If you watched the Aggies in those...

The Big Ten has announced a new bowl lineup starting next season, with most of the shake-up coming at the bottom. The first new bowl is the Texas Bowl in Houston, with a Big 12 opponent. I wonder what airline tickets from Minneapolis to Houston go for? Or Minneapolis to Dallas, for something called the Dallas Football Classic versus a Conference USA team. Ugh. The best new bowl game is the Gator Bowl,...

Houston's taste for college-football bowl games was soured pretty ferociously by the inanity of Mattress Mac's galleryfurniture.com Bowl. But its successor, the Texas Bowl, has proven to be a wel...

Rice University isn't without recommendations and it can boast being the No. 1 school for "Quality of Life" on a page designed to lure future Owls to Houston. None of those things are the Rice football team, which makes cliff-diving look like jumping off a footstool. Last year, David Bailiff's Owls went 10-3, losing only at Vanderbilt, Texas, and Tulsa, and won the Texas Bowl over Western...
