There are three things I really didn't like about that quarter: First, the way it ended: Tony Romo hitting his first wide receiver of the day -- Miles Austin, in this case -- for a nice gain. I don't like the momentum it gives, I don't like the gain, I don't like the idea of Romo coming alive. Say what you want about Romo: he may be streaky, he may not have it in the clutch, he may date pop stars...

Photo by dharmabumx . It didn't take much to turn Redskins fans' frowns into smiles: a fake field goal throw for a touchdown, an injury to starting Denver starting QB Kyle Orton, and, finally, a win over a halfway decent team to celebrate. The future still looks bleak, but yes, the Redskins are now 3-6 after last week's 27-17 home win against the Broncos. Redskins fans seemed to hold their heads high...

Hopefully we'll be seeing a lot of this on Sunday (via blogs.tampabay.com ) View full size photo » David Halprin, who is the lead blogger for the Cowboys ' SB Nation website, Blogging the Boys , and I had a brief gmail chat talking about the big game. We talked about what their 2 major injuries mean (Colombo and Hamlin), why they refuse to run the ball, and if the DAL/WAS rivalry is still big...

Andre Carter came into this game leading the Redskins with 6.5 sacks on the season, 2.5 more than he had in all of 2009. Brian Orakpo came into this game leading all NFL rookies with 5.5 sacks -- trailing Carter by one for the team lead. The Broncos, meanwhile, had allowed 13 sacks all year. Something had to give ... and what gave turned out to be Denver quarterback Kyle Orton's ankle. "The reason...

More photos » by Ed Andrieski - AP Browse more photos » The obvious connection between the Redskins and Broncos is the Champ for Portis trade, but as one AP writer noted, Josh McDaniels is in the same past predicament as Coach Zorn last year, rookie coach at 6-2: Which takes us to Josh McDaniels, this year's new kid on the block who could do no wrong. He has the Denver Broncos at 6-2, but...

It could be argued that this entire Redskins season has felt cold, dreary, and rainy; today the weather during the practice matched. So it was probably a good thing that, in honor of Veterans Day, the Redskins hosted 25 servicemen and -women from the Southeast Veterans Service Center in Washington, DC. The veterans were allowed to watch practice, given lunch, and then had a chance to meet players...

Brian Orakpo is not good at losing. That much was made clear to me earlier in the season, when he got his first sack and immediately explained how little he cared, because it came in a loss. The point was re-emphasized today in Mike Wise's column in the Washington Post, which featured this little locker room vignette: Brian Orakpo's baritone voice emoted a one-word expletive in the corner of the locker...

NFL.com recently added 'Offensive Line' to their statistics, and it reveals an intricate look into each team's running game and pass protection. Not surprisingly, the Redskins have allowed a 30th ranked 23 sacks, while the Falcons boast the 2nd best pass protection with a puny 6 sacks allowed. The Falcons offense will be the most difficult test for Andre Carter , Griff, Haynesworth, and Orakpo to date,...

Took me 2 hours, but I'm still proud of it. View full size photo uploaded October 30, 2009 In the spirit of Halloween and the BYE week, I thought I'd do a mid-season evaluation and tag the Redskins players as trick or treat based on their performance (players I thought who have been medium are not included). I gotta say, it's nice diving back into the stats and getting away from all the "banned...

Final observations from the Redskins' 27-17 loss to the Eagles: c On DeSean Jackson's 67-yard end-around touchdown run less than two minutes into the game, Redskins defensive end Andre Carter had the job of containing on the play, but it's not his first responsibility. In the Redskins' scheme, Carter's first "key" is the dive handoff to Brian Westbrook. Once Carter recognized it was a fake,...

Observations from last night: When you add it all up, the Redskins are a horrible football team. Mosley made the observation that the Redskins are starting three offensive linemen who probably shouldn't even be in the NFL. What I was surprised to realize last night is that with a functional O-line, this would be a shockingly different team. If you swapped our O-line for that of, say, the New York Jets...

There were bad things about this game. Lots of them. And I'm sure those will be more than adequately covered, here and elsewhere, through the bye week and into the next one. So here are the good things I can think of from this game. Don't worry, it shouldn't take you long to read. The fans, who came out strong and stood by the team until things seemed to be genuinely out of reach. I don't mean to...
