When the Bengals put Chris Henry on Injured Reserve, there was some speculation on what the team could do, which largely depended on what they wanted to do at wide receiver. Do they find a replacement? Do they restock the position after Andre Caldwell ? Instead, they re-signed utility offensive lineman Scott Kooistra , giving the Bengals a full 53-man roster. Kooistra is expected to earn $620,000 in...

Martin Moll The Green Bay Packers have traded offensive lineman Tony Moll to the Baltimore Ravens for defensive back Derrick Martin. The move comes as the Packers are in the process of cutting players in order to meet the NFL-mandated 53-man roster limit Saturday. Martin, a sixth-round pick in the 2006 draft, played in 28 games and made three starts in his first three seasons in Baltimore. Moll appeared...

It's the final audition . Where the guys that aren't sealed as certain roster selections, put it all on the line for a job in the National Football League. The starters won't see much action tonight. Carson Palmer won't play at all (though latest word is that he's dressing and could still play). No, this isn't your average NFL game. It'll be sloppy. It'll be low scoring. But most definitely, you'll...

It is almost universally agreed upon that the fourth game of the preseason is redundant and a waste of time. Anyone who has anything to do with the sport would much rather proceed with live fire that counts rather than undergo yet another training round of blanks. Coaches, of course, wouldn't consider the preseason to be blanks because players get hurt and rosters are thereby adjusted. But most fans...

The upcoming cutdown day took front and center with several players. Antonio Chatman , Chris Pressley , DeDe Dorsey and Brian Leonard had dinner, talking about it. Andrew Whitworth and his wife Melissa sat on the couch talking about losing friends. The battle between Brian Leonard, DeDe Dorsey and Bernard Scott at running back. The battle of Corey Lynch and Tom Nelson , who took a carriage ride downtown,...

By September 1 (this Tuesday), all teams are mandated to lower their roster to 75 players. That number is dramatically reduced to 53 on September 5 (next Saturday), which is the league-wide cutdown day. With 80 players currently on roster, the Bengals will be forced to cut five by this Tuesday. While I won't name players, I believe they'll address three positions at least. And if Andre Smith decides...

Geoff Hobson reported that Marvin Lewis thinks Carson Palmer should be good to go the next time the Bengals practice. Hobson indicated that he wasn't sure if Lewis meant "Wednesday's walkthrough or Saturday's practice, but it sounded like Palmer will play in that Sept. 3 preseason finale ." This is good news for fans that are worried Palmer would be too out of rhythm with his offense when...

As of this morning, quarterback Carson Palmer was seen wearing a boot, deflecting questions to Marvin Lewis. Where in the book of good signs is that a good sign? Remember last year. It was never officially known when, or even if, Palmer would return with his bum elbow. Sure, word came down that Palmer is likely done, will need Tommy John surgery and a cream from the planet Galgavac to repair the elbow;...

Let's talk about the good things we saw tonight, shall we?. For me: 1.) Bernard Scott . If he's not the #2 RB by week 1 there's a serious problem. Dude has mad skills. 2.) This receiving corps is stacked. I was even impressed with Simpson tonight. There is no room for Antonio Chatman on this roster. 2a.) Chris Henry is the player he was in 2005 without the off-field stupidity. There is nothing bad...

And so it begins. The Bengals kickoff the 2009 Preseason in New Orleans against the Saints. We pointed out earlier on Friday that the Bengals are on a six-game losing streak against the Saints during the preseason, with the last win coming in 1975. A few things to look for, from reader The Dealio . Injuries: Dan Santucci , Ben Utecht , David Jones, Brandon Johnson , Evan Mathis , Antonio Chatman and...
