From the FanPosts. -Chris Many probably find the upstart United Football League as an irrelevancy during the early weeks of the NFL regular season. The UFL barely registers a blip on the sports news radar as its four teams start practice this week in preparation for a six-game season kicking off October 8th on the Versus Network. While the league's marketing slogan is "Where the Future Stars Come...

The UFL was pretty much off my radar until the first week of June when Bobby Sippio tried out for the league . Two weeks later, the draft was held and five former Kansas City Chiefs were selected by a UFL franchise including: LB Gary Stills S Oliver Celestin WR BJ Sams Ramiro Pruneda FB Ronnie Cruz Make that six players in the UFL now (and if there's one I'm missing I'm sure you will let me know in...

A player that spent much less time in Kansas City, BJ Sams, was selected by San Francisco. Sams appeared in three games for the Chiefs last season accumulating 238 return yards. He was released after the team signed Mark Bradley. Sams will play for former Vikings and Cardinals coach Dennis Green. Around The Web: Offseason Fail, Wilkerson The Starter, UFL Chiefs | Whoops. Robinson’s return was the longest punt return in 42 games for the Chiefs, dating back to Dante Hall’s 60-yard return for a TD against San Francisco in the third week of the 2006 season. Before this one, the longest punt return in the ‘08 season was just 16 yards, but B.J. Sams back in the third game of the year against Atlanta. I know they're small but the offensive, defensive and special teams depth charts are listed here. Click to view larger image. Depth chart taken from KCChiefs.com . A few notes about the depth chart: Dantrell Savage is listed #1 for kickoff returns and BJ Sams is listed #1 for punt returns. One of these guys, hopefully Sams, has to go within a couple of weeks here. Something is up with this. It's either...

As we learned quite well last year, the cutdown to 53 is not necessarily the end of the roster moves. For those players at the end of the roster, sleep does not come easy. Here are my nominees (in no particular order) for “I wouldn’t sleep easy if I were” Nap Harris Tyler Thigpen BJ Sams OK Addicts, who [...]

But the Chiefs’ other returner, B.J. Sams , injured his hamstring Thursday, and coach Herm Edwards couldn’t predict whether Sams would be healthy enough to play in next week’s season opener. In either case, Edwards said they wouldn’t base a decision whether or not to retain Savage , a rookie free agent, on one play. www.kansascity.com | 08/28/2008 | Returner’s job still...

“Just watch him. He’s like a bowling ball with butcher knives on it. It’s hard to tackle the guy.” - Herm Edwards discussing the play of Dantrell Savage That’s not only why I like Savage, but also why I’ve dubbed him the Macho Man. He does run like that. Meanwhile, B.J. Sams and Eddie Drummond, the [...]

The leading candidates to return kickoffs and punts for the Chiefs have strong credentials. Veteran B.J. Sams was among the NFL’s top-ranked return specialists while with Baltimore early in his career. Rookie Kevin Robinson, a sixth-round pick, had eight kick-return touchdowns during his time at Utah State.
