Panthers running on empty at fullback position

(By Charles Chandler, cchandler@charlotteobserver.com) Aside from his daughter's signature, there's not much Brad Hoover likes about the cast he's wearing on his right foot and ankle. "I wish they'd cut it off right now," he said Thursday.

Hoover's ankle should be OK

The Carolina Growl reports X-rays on Panthers FB Brad Hoover 's ankle showed no breaks. He does have a high ankle sprain and was walking with the aid of crutches, so it's possible Hoover could miss this week's game against New Orleans. He finished the game with Arizona with one carry for 2 yards.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Carolina Panthers: Injury Report

While the Arizona Cardinals still have some players battling through some nagging injuries they are still in a much better situation than most teams in the league seven weeks into the season. The team had just three players who sat out of yesterday's practice, but Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was able to participate in the full practice. DRC, who estimated himself at about 85%, said that he was surprised...

Panthers Report Card

QUARTERBACK Grade: B Comment: Jake Delhomme turned in a gritty performance, personified by his 9-yard run for a first down with less than two minutes remaining that allowed Carolina to run out the clock. He mostly threw the ball well and didn't allow his lone interception, which led to a Redskins' touchdown, to discourage him. RUNNING BACKS Grade: C minus Jonathan Stewart ran extremely hard and effectively...

Hoover fumbles only carry

Carolina RB Brad Hoover saw one carry in a Week 5 win over the Redskins. He fumbled that carry on the goal line and it resulted in Redskins ball. He did not lose the fumble but since the ball ended up in the end zone recovered by Hoover, he could not advance his own fumble.

Week 5 Offensive Matchups: Carolina's offense vs Redskins Defense

I still can't believe that the Panthers are 0-3. The playoffs seem like a far-off dream by now, and the Panthers are entering their 3rd must-win game in month. This game we're either going to see a team that has found its soul during the Bye week, or a team that has returned to break the spirit of Panther fans everywhere. The good news is that this is a very winnable game. The Redskins are 2-2 against...

The State of the Carolina Panthers

In one of the hardest schedules in the history of our team, the Panthers have started 0-3. In the preseason we were regarded as one of the top teams to get to the Super Bowl, and the favorites to win the NFC division. Thought not spoken of in many NFL circles, we were slowly gaining respect around the league as a force worthy of being reckoned with and a team able to dig deep into the playoffs. Why?...
