Brian Kelly of Cincinnati will be the most popular name connected to the soon-to-be vacant Notre Dame coaching job. Other names, such as ESPN analyst Jon Gruden and Florida pipe dream Urban Meyer are expected to be in the mix as well. What about Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops? This doesn’t have a ton to do with Oklahoma’s humbling [...]

Losses are never welcome in South Bend, but to fall to Navy back to back? A big contract might be a reason to keep Charlie Weis, but if Notre Dame wants a change -- Brian Kelly? -- it needs to move fast, Dennis Dodd says.

23-21... Notre Dame dropped it's third loss to Navy. 100% completely unacceptable. Charlie Weis apologists were willing to forgive a loss to Michigan in Michigan. A loss to USC in South Bend was tough to swallow in what could have been a signature win for Weis, but wasn't. A loss in South Bend to Navy in 2009 is unforgivable and should be the straw that breaks Charlie Weis' back and Weis should be...

Congratulations to the UC Bearcats for a nice exiting win last night a Nippert Stadium. After a 30-10 whoop ass the first half, I was poised to leave the game at the end of the third quarter and be in bed by 11:30. No such luck. With a combination of a porous run defense and a punt return for a touchdown, the Huskies got back in the game to make it a 47-45 nail biter. Hard to imagine a game scenario...

A win's a win. At this point in the season -- perhaps in this era of college football -- "style points" are an archaic concept. Just survive, week to week. It's not that easy, as Iowa and Oregon fans will tell you. * Florida wins without style -- just the best defense in college football. * Alabama won without style -- in a slugfest with LSU, that's all you can hope for. * Cincinnati won...

Tony Pike will practice with fourth-ranked Cincinnati this week, his status still uncertain because of an injury to his non-passing arm. Coach Brian Kelly said Monday that the senior quarterback will participate in more practice drills. Then Kelly will decide whether he has a chance to play on Saturday night against Connecticut (4-4). Pike broke his left forearm last season, had a plate and six screws...
