Viking Fans Apparently Stuffing the Ballot Box

For the past few years, fan voting has accounted for 1/3 of the balloting for the NFL Pro Bowl, and you can go to NFL.com in order to vote for your favorite players (read: Vikings) to play in this year's exhibition. However, according to the folks at Viking Update , a lot of your fellow Vikings fans are way ahead of you on that front. Right now, members of the Minnesota Vikings are leading at TEN DIFFERENT...

The Basics: Vikings Simply Need to Tackle Better

If only running backs not named Adrian Peterson stood perfectly still and acted like a tackling dummy. Then life would be easier on Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway who supposedly leads the league in missed tackles. The stat is not officially kept, but I’ve heard that STATS, inc has him as the leader in missed tackles from [...]

Installment 4 – 2009 Mid-Season Grades – Linebackers and Secondary

Linebackers - Chad Greenway - Very fast for a linebacker with very good coverage skills and has flashed good blitzing ability. Has a penchant for making the Big Play and covers ground from sideline to sideline. Led the team in tackles last year and has 40 stops so far this season. He [...]

Gonzo Reads Books: Peter King's "Monday Morning Quarterback"

So I get home from work a few days ago, and I found a nice surprise in my mailbox from the good folks at Sports Illustrated Books. It was a copy of Peter King's new tome Monday Morning Quarterback: A fully caffeinated guide to everything you need to know about the NFL . Now, I know that I've had my differences with Mr. King in the past. . .well not with Mr. King, per se, but with some of the things...

Trailing Clouds of Heaven: Vikings 38, Packers 26

Vikings 38, Packers 26 ( ESPN Box Score ) The Vikings scored their first win at Lambeau Field since 2005, and also their first season sweep of the Packers since 2005. It's hard to question that this game meant more to Packer fans than to Viking fans. Obviously Viking fans always want to see the Vikes beat the Packers, but be honest: at a personal level, how much does Favre's Reveng On The Packers do...

Less E.J. in the Nickel

Interesting comments from Leslie Frazier about the nickel and how roles may be changing. Via the Star-Trib: Linebacker Ben Leber usually comes out in nickel situations — fellow linebackers E.J. Henderson and Chad Greenway remain on the field — but Frazier said that might change Sunday. “We discussed that and we’re going to do some things [...]

Statistically Speaking, Vikings Look Solid

More photos » by Michael Conroy - AP Browse more photos » I'm not a big stats guy, but even a fella like me can look at the statistical leaderboards after five weeks and see that the Vikings are excelling in multiple facets of the game. A quick glance at the numbers: Among quarterbacks, Brett Favre is third in the league in completion percentage (69.1%) with just Ben Roethlisberger and...

Vikings DB Tyrell Johnson (interception, five tackles), LB Chad Greenway (six tackles, forced fumble), LB E.J. Henderson (six tackles, fumble recovery), DL Pat Williams (four tackles, forced fumble) and DL Kevin Williams (three tackles, sack) all did their job well in a Week 5 rout of the Rams.

Vikings Linebacker Ben Leber Beating Packers Another Step Along The Way

one of only two NFL starters from South Dakota (teammate Chad Greenway (notes) is the other), made one of the biggest plays in Monday night's 30-23 win over the Packers. He tackled tight end Jermichael Finley (notes) at the 1-yard line on third down in the third quarter, saving a touchdown. The Vikings then held Green Bay on fourth down. After the game, Leber talked with Sporting News' Dennis Dillon....

Four Vikings Players to Think Pink on Monday Night

In a move that I can only describe as "holy crap awesome," four members of the Minnesota Vikings will be sporting pink cleats during this Monday night's home contest against the Green Bay Packers at the Metrodome. The four Vikings players that will be wearing the pink shoes in order to promote breast cancer awareness are quarterback Brett Favre , running back Chester Taylor , linebacker Chad...
