Giants LB Antonio Pierce (neck), who had already been ruled out for Week 11 against Atlanta, was deactivated for the game. He suffered a bulging disc that will sideline him indefinitely. Chase Blackburn got the start in his place.

The Giants won’t have the heart and soul of their defense on the field for a while. But his presence will still be felt. That was the message from Tom Coughlin this morning, when the Giants distributed his first public reaction to the news that Pierce could miss up to six weeks with a bulging disc in his neck . The coach said Pierce will remain a fixture on the Giants’ sideline, where...

The Giants sent seven players to the Pro Bowl last season. But it doesn’t seem likely they’ll be able to duplicate that feat this year. In fact, in the first round of fan voting released today by the NFL, only one Giants player leads in the balloting at his position — punter Jeff Feagles. Worse, in the 19 separate position categories, only eight Giants players appear in the top five....

THE GAME: The Giants (5-0) at the New Orleans Saints (4-0), 1 p.m., Fox. WHAT IT MEANS: Are you ready for some football? I mean some real football, not the snooze-fests we’ve seen the last three weeks. Finally the Giants get a real test and with both teams undefeated and looking like they’ve got staying power, this game could be huge down the stretch. Forgetting the undefeated Vikings...

It’s really like someone is having some sort of warped, twisted special: Have a big game for the Giants, get an injury - - free! Linebacker Bryan Kehl, who has been outstanding on special teams this season and was one of the unsung heroes of the Giants’ win in Kansas City on Sunday, underwent surgery late today on a fractured left index finger. It’s not clear when he hurt his finger,...

Bryan Kehl underwent surgery late this afternoon for a fractured left index finger. Kehl’s status is week to week. So much for Kehl replacing Boley, enter Chase Blackburn.

More photos » by Jeff Roberson - AP Browse more photos » All I can say is, be thankful the Eagles had a bye week. It seems that all three of our rivals were met with some form of misfortune this Sunday, as many starting players are now down for the count. First up, the undefeated New York Giants . The G-Men suffered two big losses after throttling Kansas City: weakside linebacker Michael...

A source told the Newark Star Ledger’s Mike Garafolo that linebacker Michael Boley will miss a few weeks with a knee injury. This is a huge set back for Boley, who was really starting to come into his own after recovering from a hip injury. Presumably, Bryan Kehl or Chase Blackburn will take his place.

UPDATE: 11:26 a.m. w/comments from Tom Coughlin Ahmad Bradshaw just had the second best day of his NFL career and is playing like the best running back on the Giants roster . So of course he was the one surprise name on the pre-practice injury report today. Bradshaw is listed on the unofficial report with an “ankle/foot” injury. We’re hoping to get some more information from Tom...

Fed up with waiting for two of his top three cornerbacks to play this season, Tom Coughlin said “It’s time” for Aaron Ross and Kevin Dockery to get back on the practice field. “We’re going to try to get (them) going,” Coughlin said. “Hopefully they’ll be able to do some individuals to start with. We’re going to kind of spoon feed it back. But it’s...

A bit of news and notes for you on this Thursday afternoon: It looks like Chase Blackburn will be starting at weakside linebacker for suspended Michael Boley. Blackburn is not overly athletic, but he gets by on grit, and smarts. A friend of mine calls him “the backbone of this team.” I’m not sure I agree [...]

The cuts won’t become official until 6 p.m. today, and even then there’s still a lot of time for the Giants to tweak their roster before opening day on Sept. 13. But according to various NFL sources, and a couple of reports, below is what I believe is the 53-man roster the Giants will announce later this evening. I’ve also included the list of cuts I’ve been compiling all day...
