Just a few notes from a short, windy Saturday practice. Clinton Portis was back at practice, but Albert Haynesworth and DeAngelo Hall were not. Hall was resting a sore knee but is expected to play Monday night; Haynesworth is still nursing an ankle and may be a gametime decision. Cornelius Griffin , Chris Horton , Kareem Moore , and Hunter Smith were also all back at practice and are expected to play....

So there were quite a few guys missing from an unseasonably warm practice today: Chris Cooley , gone for family reasons. Cornelius Griffin , just getting "a little more rest," according to head coach Jim Zorn. "He's gonna be fine." Clinton Portis "did not practice," Zorn said. "He's got a sprained ankle." Albert Haynesworth was out with a sprained ankle as well...

See, here's the thing about practice today: it was cold, and rainy, and not much of interest happened. Phillip Daniels didn't practice, but is expected to go tomorrow and still plans to play Sunday. Cornelius Griffin and Albert Haynesworth were limited. Clinton Portis participated, at least a bit. If the tension of the season is coming to a head for the team, I certainly couldn't tell by watching...

Although Hunter Smith has not been officially ruled out because of his pulled groin, the Washington Redskins are formulating a plan of which punters will try out on Tuesday. Smith was injured on his first punt in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. "His MRI came out decent," coach Jim Zorn said on Monday. "It's not severe but it is going to possibly keep him from participating. We are going...

After nearly a decade of having a lackluster pass rush, this was supposed to be the season that the Washington Redskins' front four finally broke out. With Albert Haynesworth joining Cornelius Griffin in creating a push up the middle and top draft choice Brian Orakpo - who moves from strongside linebacker to end on passing downs - teaming with Andre Carter to bring it from the outside, the Redskins...

It got worse. Instead of re-tallying the mistakes -- and I forgot to mention missed tackles in my first quarter update , which was ... let's say "a bit of an oversight" -- let's just do a halftime injury update. Albert Haynesworth left on a cart with a hip injury; his return is questionable. Brian Orakpo was slow to get up just before halftime; no word. Cornelius Griffin went out with a...

Practice got rescheduled today, moved earlier for reasons that were actually never explained to me. Weather, I guess, although the only weather I noticed was unpleasantly muggy warmth only occasionally cut by cooler fall breezes. The most notable play of today's full-pads practice came toward the end. The first-team defense completely blew up a screen pass: Andre Carter threw his blocker to the ground...

Remember last year's team captains photo ? The one where Cornelius Griffin said his teammates told the six captains "You look gangster'? Well, today was scheduled to be the updated version, and -- largely thanks to Jason Campbell 's choice of ensembles -- things did not go exactly as planned. "You know, there's nothing gangster about what Jason's got on right now," said Mike Sellers...

In 13 seasons in the NFL, Phillip Daniels has seen and done more than most players ever will. So the 36-year-old defensive end can answer with certainty when asked whether the Washington Redskins' defensive line this season is the best on which he has played. "It is. Already it is," Daniels said as the Redskins prepared for Thursday's preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Veteran...
