With the final round of cuts and what appears to be all of the waiver claims out of the way, it's time to take a look at what the Lions ' 53-man roster looks like. Before I get to that, though, let's examine who has been cut in the last few days to help get the roster down to 53 players. Cut on Saturday: QB Brooks Bollinger - No surprise here. He looked good against Buffalo, but the Lions brought him...

Quarterback Jeff Garcia, who was signed by Oakland in the offseason to push JaMarcus Russell and serve as a mentor to the former No. 1 overall draft pick, was among 22 players let go by the Raiders on Saturday. The Detroit Lions have set their roster with 53 players they hope can help them win a game for the first time since 2007. Detroit released the following offensive players Saturday night: quarterback...

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Rookie wide receiver Derrick Williams did not help his cause Thursday night, as the Lions beat Buffalo, 17-6, in the exhibition finale. Williams did not return punts in the first half, with veteran Dane Looker handling that instead. When he got a chance in the second half, he fumbled a punt.

Training camp is now technically over . Players are no longer required to stay in a hotel, and there is no longer a curfew. Practice still continues on, but the players' living arrangements are a bit different now (if they choose to leave the hotel). With Jason Hanson out until at least the start of the regular season and Swayze Waters suffering the effects of a tight hamstring, the Lions decided to...

by Michael Katz Filed under: Lions , NFC North , NFL Injuries Scott Linehan probably thought he knew exactly what he was getting when Detroit signed Dane Looker on Aug. 17. After all, the Lions' new offensive coordinator had coached his newest wide receiver with the Rams and at the University of Washington. But in adding Looker as a sturdy set of hands for an injury-depleted receiving corps, the Lions...

The Lions got an unexpected bit of bad news Tuesday, when kicker Swayze Waters woke up with a stiff hamstring and had to miss practice. But that led to the pleasant surprise of watching receiver Dane Looker step in and make all four of his field-goal attempts.

OK, how do you not root for savvy veteran receiver Dane Looker to make the team? Sorry, but the dude just oozes professionalism. After the Lions signed him last week, Looker made sure to be at his locker on Monday in order to meet reporters. He was prepared with an anecdote about contemplating the meaning of life as he built a deck around his hot tub in Seattle when the Lions called him for a tryout....
