Evaluating the Lions' 53-Man Roster

With the final round of cuts and what appears to be all of the waiver claims out of the way, it's time to take a look at what the Lions ' 53-man roster looks like. Before I get to that, though, let's examine who has been cut in the last few days to help get the roster down to 53 players. Cut on Saturday: QB Brooks Bollinger - No surprise here. He looked good against Buffalo, but the Lions brought him...

Return troubles ail rookie WR Derrick Williams

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Rookie wide receiver Derrick Williams did not help his cause Thursday night, as the Lions beat Buffalo, 17-6, in the exhibition finale. Training camp is now technically over . Players are no longer required to stay in a hotel, and there is no longer a curfew. Practice still continues on, but the players' living arrangements are a bit different now (if they choose to leave the hotel). by Michael Katz Filed under: Lions , NFC North , NFL Injuries Scott Linehan probably thought he knew exactly what he was getting when Detroit signed Dane Looker on Aug. 17. After all, the Lions' new offensive coordinator had coached his newest wide receiver with the Rams and at the University of Washington. But in adding Looker as a sturdy set of hands for an injury-depleted receiving corps, the Lions...

Tough not to root for veteran Dane Looker

OK, how do you not root for savvy veteran receiver Dane Looker to make the team? Sorry, but the dude just oozes professionalism. After the Lions signed him last week, Looker made sure to be at his locker on Monday in order to meet reporters. He was prepared with an anecdote about contemplating the meaning of life as he built a deck around his hot tub in Seattle when the Lions called him for a tryout....
