Singletary quick-hitter: Breaking down the OL, the leaders, and Crabtree rumors

Gotta jam over to Alameda for Tom Cable’s press conference, so I can’t do a full transcript, just quick-hits from Mike Singletary’s weekly presser… -Singletary did a detailed breakdown of the offensive line, making sure to point out that center Eric Heitmann “is... Continue reading...

Colin Cole Allows a Hole Emmitt Smith Would Envy

This hole? Zombie-Curtis Enis could run through it. How does a running back rush for 80 yards on the first play of the half? How does a team fail to adjust when that same running back broke a 75 yard run in the first half? Seattle didn't really adjust. It was again eight in the box. Kelly Jennings was manning the right end, making Seattle borderline nine in the box. The starters, minus Lofa Tatupu...

Craig Terrill Lifts Darryl Tapp's Sack

More photos » by Elaine Thompson - AP Darryl Tapp does something cool ten times a game. In his coaches eyes, that can't overcome the two inches God didn't give him. Browse more photos » The first quarter ended quietly. Craig Terrill sacked Shaun Hill and forced San Francisco to start the second quarter punting. The Seahawks looked to be in it, and maybe if things had broken differently...

49ers’ 2009 offense: Stubborn, physical, uncreative, frustrating… and 1-0

Posting the column I wrote for this morning’s paper, and also the transcript of an interview with 49ers’ center and offensive co-captain Eric Heitmann, who was very clear about the offense needing to tune it up for the rest of the season… —ERIC HEITMANN/ -Q: You think this... Continue reading...

Vernon Davis named a captain

Vernon Davis, once banished to the locker room during a game, has impressed 49ers coach Mike Singletary. SANTA CLARA – Nearly a year removed from being tossed from a game by his head coach, Vernon Davis has climbed back into Mike Singletary's good graces. How high has he climbed? Singletary on Friday announced Davis is one of six 49ers captains for the 2009 season. "I know he told me last...

49ers Unofficial Official 2009 depth chart

At some point this week (I'm guessing), the 49ers will post what they consider their "official" depth chart for 2009. For now the site says the official depth chart hasn't been released. The good news is that we do have an unofficial depth chart that seems likely to be pretty close to official. In that game release I received from the team, it includes a page with the unofficial depth chart....

2009 San Francisco 49ers 53-man roster

As I was putting together some posts for tomorrow, I realized I didn't have an internal link with the San Francisco 49ers 53-man roster for 2009. We've got plenty of info about the roster cuts and practice squad, but nothing listing just the 53-man roster. So, after the jump I've listed the entire 53-man roster as of midnight Tuesday morning. If any changes occur in the coming days, I'll adjust it...

Projecting the 49ers 53-man Roster One Last Time

It's about that time for one final roster projection before we head into the regular season, don't you think? Teams must have their rosters trimmed down to 53 at some point today and I figure we'll take one last swing at it. With Singletary stating earlier that only a few spots were actually up for grabs , you have to wonder who is secure and who isn't. One can assume that the last cornerback position,...

Nate Davis to play most of 49ers-Chargers game

by Donna McWilliam - AP View full size photo uploaded September 3, 2009 Mike Singletary had a variety of comments today related to tomorrow's game and we can definitely infer a lot from them. I don't have a transcript at this point so we'll link to Maiocco 's and Barrows's stories on the comments. The biggest piece of news to come out of it, and the primary reason for this post, is that Alex Smith...

Projecting the 49ers 53-man roster #4

As the preseason rolls along, more and more positional battles are won, meaning more and more folks lock up roster spots. For example, yesterday's release of Damon Huard not only locks in Nate Davis's roster spot, but as far as I'm concerned, it removes him from our last 5 on list. I'd imagine it's not a major concern to Nate, but still worth considering. As you'll notice, I've bumped down Bear Pascoe...

Projecting the 49ers 53-man roster #3

It is indeed that time of the week. Eight days ago we rolled out the second 53-man roster projection and plenty has happened since then to mix things up a little bit more. The biggest news affecting our roster projection is probably the return of Ray McDonald from the PUP list . As with before, new additions are underlined. After the jump I go into some of the details of my changes. Offense QB (3):...

Projecting the 49ers 53-man roster #2

Approximately six weeks ago I rolled out my initial projection of the 49ers 53-man roster . While there is still plenty of preseason football to be played, I thought a couple weeks of training camp and a preseason game is enough time to consider revisions to our 53-man roster projection. I have to admit that this has gotten really difficult to figure out given some of the injuries and the Michael Crabtree...

49ers All-time Offensive Tackle #2

In another expected result, Jesse Sapolu ran away with the all-time center vote . In another interesting, but not entirely shocking result, Eric Heitmann grabbed 10% of the vote. Having current guys on the ballot can probably lead to some slightly skewed results. Given some of the upcoming votes, I'll be opening this up for a little more debate in the next week or so. For now though, it's time to move...

49ers All-Time Center

In a less than shocking result, Steve Young blew out the field in the race for the backup QB position , finishing with 91% of the vote. Not too shabby I'd say. Later tonight I'll make sure and update the left column with our recent results. In the meantime, I thought we'd move on to the Center position today. The 49ers have had some solid centers in their history, particularly since the beginning of...

Projecting the 49ers 53-man roster #1

Over the last couple months, people have begun rolling out their 53-man roster projections. We had kiyoshi rolling out an immediate post-draft depth chart comparison to 2008 . That was followed by sam23 with the impressively early projection . I believe there have been some more, so feel free to post them in here, or link to them. Up until now I've been posting projections at each position as an exercise...
