Head coach Jim Zorn was full of praise for kicker Shaun Suisham during his post-practice press briefing today. Asked if the holder last year was hurting Suisham's percentages, Zorn said, "A kicker has to go out and kick, whoever is holding. If I held and the ball was flat on the tee - he has still got to hit it, right? But there is a rhythm. He has worked very hard and he has concentrated on the...
Bad news first. I mentioned that I had given Casey Rabach a Flip Camera to get some players-eye-view-video of the trip to New Jersey last weekend. This usually yields twenty minutes of amusing but unusable footage, two minutes of quality behind-the-scenes stuff, and an entire weekend of hassled misery for poor Ethan Albright . This weekend, though, for a variety of reasons, Rabach wasn't able to get...
I had the pleasure of getting in touch with former Redskins ' kicker, Brett Conway. To refresh your memory, Brett had two stints with the Redskins: one from 1998-1999 and the second from 2000-2002. I have been looking forward to this phone call for awhile given Brett played under Jack Kent Cooke, Dan Snyder, Steve Spurrier, and with Jeff George. Brett was very professional as not to air any dirty laundry....
As the NFL kicks off its regular season this week, the specter of labor strife looms like a weakside linebacker. All the relevant buzzwords and terms have been tossed about. Lockout. Uncapped year. Union decertification. A stretch of more than 16 years of labor peace in the NFL has been threatened, with the deadline to create a new collective bargaining agreement fast approaching. "At this point,...
A few quick notes from yesterday's afternoon practice in shorts and shells: o. The strangest part of this first practice of the 2009 regular season was seeing Colt Brennan in sweats on the sideline while newly-signed Andre' Woodson -- standing tall and wearing number 2 -- works out with the quarterbacks. Here's Coach Zorn from the post-practice press conference above, talking about some of the reasons...

I was unable to be at morning practice today, but Intern Bryce was more than willing to take a few notes, pay attention to what went down, and write it up for you. For my part, I'm disappointed that he didn't pay closer attention to the 1-on-1 linemen drills, but that may just be me. Before we get to that, though: as someone who writes about football, I feel somewhat obligated to do this: Brett Favre...
Another sweltering hot day. The practice started for QBs with Zorn throwing the ball on the ground and each Qb having to fall on it in a spooning/sliding fashion. Colt did it the best of the three. Todd Collins seemed to run up to it, squat, and fall on it which drew laughter from the crowd. Campbell also had an awkward fall on it which resulted in a quick lecture from Zorn. Next up was practicing...

DeAngelo Hall is not very good at football. Once a highly touted recruit, he’s now basically waiver fodder according to Al Davis. However, who knew he was bad enough to drop 25 points in his Madden rating, down from a 93 to a 68? Hall tweeted about his disappointment: So i just found out that Madden killed [...]
Ethan Albright had been with the Redskins only one season when the team last brought in a player to challenge him at long snapper. That was in 2002, when seventh-round draft choice Jeff Grau never came close to ousting Albright.
http://dcprosportsreport.com/2009/02/redskins-free-agents-soon-to-hit-the-market.html NFL free agency begins in less than 10 days and the Redskins have a number of players who will soon hit the open market . After LS Ethan Albright was re-signed last week, it will be CB DeAngelo Hall , DL Demetric Evans , LG Pete Kendall and LB Khary Campbell , who is a leader on special teams. Apparently, only Hall...
