View full size photo uploaded August 16, 2009 Thursday night, second year WR Marcus Smith came off the field limping after making a very impressive tackle on a special teams play. At the time, most of us were probably unsure of how serious the injury was, just thinking that it was a sprain or that the player landed on it the wrong way. However, after the game Coach Harbaugh stated that it is a pretty...

Being as it is preseason, we have to look back at two games, not just one. The Bucs last played the Titans at Raymond James during the 2007 season, when a late Tennessee TD put them in the lead, but left the home town team in pewter with a little too much time on the clock. Jeff Garcia masterfully hit Ike Hilliard for key first downs and got the team in position for a winning Matt Bryant FG. But that...

Last time I used the relationship between Catch% and AirYards per Completion (yards per completion with yards after catch removed) to give an evaluation of WR hands over the last two seasons. Today with 8 years of data (as far back as I can find YAC info for) Catch% and AY/C remain correlated, allowing for 8 years of hands eval and an attempt at an overall WR ranking. Top 20 Catch% over expected Player...

I was able to secure information on dropped passes in 2008 for receivers, which I thought might be worth looking into. There can't be any trend analysis or predctive values here as we have one seasons worth of data, but thought it might at least provide some factual basis with which to look at players in relation to the 2008 season. In the previous piece I discussed targets (balls intended for a WR)...

This nonsense the Bucs have been putting out lately, specifically Raheem the Dream, of the desire to acquire NRA spokesman Plexiglass Burress and/or unwanted has-been (but future Hall of Famer) Marvin Harrison has had Joe scratching his head all weekend. Then again, maybe it’s just a flare up of his eczema? When the new Bucs regime back [...]

Unless he’s working for the NFL Network, Chucky will be hiding in his bunker at the Ice Palace where he can salivate over Tim Tebow without anyone seeing him drool. As each day passes, it appears Derrick Brooks may not be working this fall. Or other former Bucs like Warrick Dunn, Ike Hilliard, Kevin Carter, Ryan [...]

Joe is rooting for Michael Clayton. Assuming the Bucs’ offense stays healthy, Clayton could be the unit’s most important player in 2009. If he can catch the ball with any consistency, a big if, that will take pressure and attention off Antonio Bryant, lessen the loss of Ike Hilliard (and Joe believes that’s a huge loss) and [...]

via farm2.static.flickr.com Yea, there's a bad stigma working against Florida receivers (even though Ike Hilliard and Reidel Anthony were ok). Percy Harvin appears ready and able to stop that trend. Possibly the most feared offensive threat in college football last season, Percy Harvin smoked opposing defenses for the Gators out of the backfield and out wide. If anyone knows that, it's Vols fans like...

by Chris Burke Filed under: Buccaneers , NFL Free Agency To save some cap room prior to free agency, the Buccaneers waved farewell to five players , including wide receivers Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard . Of course, when you cut two of the five receivers on your roster, you leave yourself with a bit of a depth issue. To cut the deficit a bit, Tampa Bay has reportedly re-upped wide receiver Michael...

NEW YORK (AP) Eleven-time Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Brooks was released by the Buccaneers on Wednesday, part of a massive purge of veterans to help Tampa Bay get ready for free agency. Cut along with Brooks were running back Warrick Dunn, wide receivers Joey Galloway and Ike Hilliard, and linebacker Cato June. All but June, who is 29, are well over 30 years old. Read the full story

The overhaul of the Buccaneers roster continued today, as the team released perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Brooks, wide receiver Joey Galloway, running back Warrick Dunn, wide receiver Ike Hilliard and linebacker Cato June. The biggest release might be Brooks, who even at 35 plays at a high level, and was the teams first round pick [...]

Brooks began to show his age in '08, ending his 12-season streak of 100-plus total tackles with 73 combined with one interception, one pass defensed and seven interceptions.
