Well, right now, we're not okay, at least in some spots on the roster. We all know that we are close, really close,...

Bears' linebacker corps against Lions might not sound like all-star roll call Dan Pompei: The Bears' linebacker corps against the Lions might not sound like a list of all-stars, but Nick Roach, Jamar Williams and Darrell McClover might surprise us. One might even be the next Lance Briggs.

These ain't your brother's Lions, even if your brother is just one year older than you. As the Trib points out, Detroit has 31 new players on their 53-man roster. As evidenced by the fact that they actually won a freakin' game last week, this team is not simply a 2009 version of the 2008 patsies that became the first team in NFL history to go winless in a 16-game season. Not to mention that the Bears...

Jamar Williams could have pouted on the sidelines, as other overlooked players have done. Instead the linebacker raised his voice just enough to be heard.

More photos » by John Froschauer - AP Browse more photos » With the Bears new look offense getting most of the publicity, and not all of it good (the run game can get going any time now), I thought I'd look inside the numbers on the defensive side of the ball. With the injuries piling up for the Chicago Bears at the linebacker position, some new opportunities for playing time have opened up. Northwestern alum Nick Roach is one athlete who sill soon capitalize on this opportunity being provided by a crisis. Roach will start the Bears home opener in week 2; and share reps with Jamar Williams at strong-side linebacker, in place of the injured Pisa Tinoisamoa....

The Bears season began with such promise. Rocket-armed Jay Cutler gave the team its first potential franchise quarterback in recent memory . Defensive rock Brian Urlacher was finally healthy after struggling to play through back, neck and thumb injuries the past two seasons. Expectations were so high that Sports Illustrated 's Peter King picked the Bears to win the NFC and face the New England Patriots...

Tonight's game versus the Cleveland Browns will provide one last chance for a lot of players to make their case for a spot on the final 53 man roster. Some positions are pretty clear, while others have yet to be figured out. Here's an article from the Tribune that identifies certain players that may be on the outside looking in . Excerpt: Linebacker How many: 7. Projected odd men out: Marcus Freeman...

via www.chicagobears.com Linebacker is a definite strength of this 2009 version of the Chicago Bears . Lance Briggs is a perennial Pro Bowler, Brian Urlacher is one of the better middle backers in the game, and newly named starting strongside LB Pisa Tinoisamoa has me wondering what the Rams were thinking in releasing him. Tinoisamoa (does this guy have a nickname yet) has quickly become a fan favorite....
