The exasperating puzzle that has become the Eagles' offensive line appeared to become even more confounding in that still-indigestible loss at Oakland last Sunday. On a day when the Birds scored just nine points, the line allowed six sacks and suffered a blow when left tackle Jason Peters was injured early in the game.

What we're talking about following the Eagles' 13-9 loss to the Oakland Raiders. The sacks: Yes, left tackle Jason Peters went down early with a knee injury and Andy Reid had to put green second-year man King Dunlap in front of All-Pro Richard Seymour. Still, giving up six sacks to a team that had a total of nine in the first five games is inexcusable.

But, in retrospect, flabi-potamus was a brilliantly bright magnesium signal flare shouting the fearsome nautical ...
