I spent Sunday afternoon at Bar None, the Vikings/Saints hangout in Manhattan, checking out the Vikings-Lions game. It was the first time I had been back in a few weeks. Despite the fact the Vikes were 16 1/2 point favorites, bum teams like the Detroit Lions always scare me. There's an old saying about there is no one freer than someone with nothing to lose. Well, the Lions were in that position Sunday,...

It was the game everyone was waiting for, and Vikings as well as Packers fans had circled for weeks. Brett Favre made his return to Lambeau Field on Sunday, and the reaction was what you might expect: a mixture of cheers and boos, but it was mostly negative. There were Packers fans with pro-Favre signs up, amid the "Judas" and "Traitor" ones from the Cheeseheads. And yes, Brett...

Vikings FB Jeff Dugan caught a two-yard touchdown pass in a Week 8 win over the Packers. It was his first NFL score and just the 20th catch of his six-year career.

More photos » by Jim Prisching - AP Browse more photos » Percy Harvin is ridiculous. If there's any conclusion to be made from The Game Of The Year, it's that there are many teams who should be ashamed of themselves for deciding against selecting The Steal Of The Draft last spring. This game was supposed to be the Brett Favre Show, and to a large extent, it was. He lived up to the occasion...

Earlier this week, we showed you the replay of Vikings RB Adrian Peterson knocking Steelers DB Will Gay into another dimension. If that hurt, how do you think this referee is doing after being body-rocked by Vikings FB Jeff Dugan. He just gets leveled face first into the dirt. A thankless profession. Jim Rome provides the commentary.

Sorry for neglecting the site again, but apparently after one travels then one must get sick. So, I’ll try to play catchup between now and Sunday’s big game. I wanted to note that I found it interesting that Mike Pereira, VP of NFL Officiating, did not address the Jeff Dugan tripping call in his weekly segment [...]

A day after losing to the Steelers, Brett Favre lost a pass completion, too. An official scoring change made Monday took away one of Favre's completions during Minnesota's 27-17 loss to the Steelers on Sunday. Favre officially completed 33 of 50 passes, not 34 of 51. Favre was errantly given a completion for no yards to Sidney Rice with 8:16 remaining on an apparent 10-yard touchdown pass play that...

A recent spate of injuries to NFL referees has the league competition committee prepared to discuss the possibility of outfitting officials with helmets or other protective devices beginning in the 2010 season. The discussion would begin after this season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter . At this point, it isn't clear whether the helmets would resemble those the players wear or be more similar...

Video: The Phantom Trip Given the amount of discussion on this play, I want to point people to video of Jeff Dugan's tripping penalty. The play, which set in motion a 14-point turnaround, is at the 1:45 mark. The commentators realize what we all knew at the time: It was an absolutely terrible call. Shame it affected the game as it did.
