Once upon a time, Jeff Backus and Jon Jansen bookended the offensive line at Michigan. It was 1997 and '98. Backus was the left tackle, Jansen the right tackle. They won a share of a national championship and went 22-3.

When the Lions host the Redskins on Sunday, Jon Jansen probably will play only on the field-goal and extra-point units. Yet a Washington TV crew came to Detroit to do a piece on him this week.
