Boxing Along The Beltway (Free subscription) | 10/27/2009
In an interesting coincidence, the Beltway has been blessed with boxers who were a part of the first season of "The Contender" all year long. Of course, the Beltway's own Jimmy Lange is here and his most recent opponent was one of his east teammates, Jonathan Reid. The area also has been visited by Joey Gilbert and Jesse Brinkley. Also, in 2007, another first season Contender star -- Anthony...

Back out to the sweltering heat after an emotionally fueled Wednesday afternoon practice hightlighted by the team's salute to our troops as part of Media Appreciation Day. After today's practice session, I interviewed reserve linebacker, Tony Fein , who was in the military prior to joining the Ravens . My interview with him will post later today as a FanPost. 2008 Review: The offensive line was in a major state of transition for the first time in years. Future Hall of Famer, Jonathan Ogden retired to end a splendid twelve year career which included 11 Pro Bowls and was voted 9 times All-Pro. Mike Flynn also ended his ten year run as a member of the [...]

Yesterday, we saw that Brian Urlacher was the only Bears player to get featured on ESPN's All-Decade Defense. Today, they have released their All-Decade Offense. Before I clicked their article , I tried to see how many Chicago players could make the list, and I came up with the only name that ESPN did. Center, Olin Kreutz : This was a three-way toss-up between Kreutz, Kevin Mawae and Matt Birk . All...

With the first decade of the 21 st century nearing its end, ESPN listed its top players of the ‘naughts,’ with its All-Decade Defensive and Offensive lists. Not surprisingly, Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed were named to the defensive team and former offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden was listed on the offensive team.

We will start the Monday offering our congratulations to the US Soccer team which had an incredible weekend down in South Africa. In an unbelievable fashion they were able to move on to the semifinal round of the Confederations Cup (international tournament featuring world heavy weights such as Brazil, Spain and Italy) by beating up African Champions Egypt by a score of 3-0. Team USA needed multiple...

Why is the news never more upsetting when your team cuts a player that you've respected, rooted for and, in sports terms, loved for over a decade? The release of Jon Jansen should have been a sad sports moment for D.C., instead it barely made a ripple. Is that the cynicism of becoming a Redskins fan? The realities of fielding a team in the flawed salary cap era? Who knows. I wasn't a disappointed to...

Here's a great topic to debate all week long. This is my shot at listing the all-time top players on the Baltimore Ravens at each offensive position. I'll pick my first and second teamers and then expect a lot of discussion and commentary from all of you fans. This will be based on the players at the top of their games, whether or not they played one season or their entire career with the Ravens. If...

Last season, the Chicago Bears offensive line did not perform as poorly as a lot of people expected them to. But heading into this offseason, we knew that it was something that needed addressing pretty badly. As free agency opened this year, it seemed like it was going to be another hibernation period for the Bears that we all knew too well. Then, things started happening. And as we look back, we can...
