More photos » by Mark Humphrey - AP Browse more photos » Since August is tied up this morning, I figured I would give you a couple of Titans ' centered articles on Football Outsiders to read while waiting for your regularly scheduled morning links. The first article is basically a running conversation between some of the FO guys while watching the Titans vs. Steelers game. My favorite line...

View full size photo uploaded August 16, 2009 Thursday night, second year WR Marcus Smith came off the field limping after making a very impressive tackle on a special teams play. At the time, most of us were probably unsure of how serious the injury was, just thinking that it was a sprain or that the player landed on it the wrong way. However, after the game Coach Harbaugh stated that it is a pretty...

Last time I used the relationship between Catch% and AirYards per Completion (yards per completion with yards after catch removed) to give an evaluation of WR hands over the last two seasons. Today with 8 years of data (as far back as I can find YAC info for) Catch% and AY/C remain correlated, allowing for 8 years of hands eval and an attempt at an overall WR ranking. Top 20 Catch% over expected Player...

More photos » by Mark Humphrey - AP Kenny Britt proving that he is better than Justin McCareins by simply holding the ball in his hand. It is too early to tell how much the...

The other day, Tim Graham had an interesting factoid about the Jets and how good they were at not dropping passes in 2008. [insert Justin McCareins joke here] The most interesting part is even though as a team they excelled at not dropping passes, Coles had one of the highest dropped pass percentages in the league at [...]

Former Titans WR Justin McCareins continues to work out in Florida after a productive season with the Titans in which he had 10 starts with 30 receptions for 412 yards. Yet McCareins is still without a job, as he is waiting for the Titans, or any other team for that matter, to make him an [...]

The Hawk is ready to fly this season , and says that there are no more excuses for him not to know enough to see the field. I hope he can put it together, because having another legit threat in the mix is a must for a WR corps that better step-up this year. Justin McCareins is planning to make his first free agent visits by the end of the week. Lets hope someone bites so the possibility of a return...

Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable : Reliable wide receiver Justin McCareins... has re-signed with the Tennessee Titans. McCareins signed a one-year contract for $730,000, precluding him from testing the free-agent market when it begins next Friday. Since when did reliable become a synonym for horrible? McCariens probably knocked 5-10% off of our 3rd down completion percentage on his own. He better...

Best news you'll hear all day: Meanwhile, the agent for receiver Justin McCareins said it’s been quiet so far regarding his conversations with the team. /pumps fist Paul Kuhrasky makes the prima facie argument for keeping Albert Haynesworth . I agree with his methods and reasons, and that's truest when it comes to addressing this common meme: He's going to dog it once he gets the big dollars....

One word sums up the McCareins experiment: DISASTER . For all of the good qualities Jeff Fisher has as a coach, he has one really bad one in his extreme loyalty to veteran players even when they are terrible. That was the case this season with McCareins. All he did was block the way for either Brandon Jones or Lavelle Hawkins to get on the field. Now we have heard plenty about The Hawk not being able...
