Working Toward The 53-Man Roster: The Defensive Line

With the first preseason game quickly approaching, the battle between 80 men vying for 53 spots on the Oakland Raiders final roster is intensifying. While many of the 53 spots are nearly guaranteed to our feature players, certain positions such as wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, and secondary still have a few roster spots that are up for grabs with several players making their case for...

Niners, Raiders Add Veterans To D

With NFL Training Camp starting up in about a month, teams are starting to put the final pieces to their teams together. A couple weeks back, both the 49ers and Raiders added some veteran help to their respective defense's. After receiving news that Walt Harris, their starting cornerback for the last three years, would likely miss the season, the 49ers went out and grabbed veteran cover man, Dre' Bly....

Silver and Black Pride's Sunday Community Poll: The Raiders Offseason Recap, Your Grades

With this coming week's final OTA, the Raiders 2009 offseason will have concluded. We then have a lull in football activity as we await the start of the 2009 season with the Raiders reporting to the training camp complex in Napa at the end of July. The only news that we can really expect is the July signings of their 2009 draft class. All the draftees are expected to be inked and in camp by the reporting...

Raiders have no good excuse for cutting Wilson

The Oakland Raiders top brass were doing so well. Two Pro Bowlers -- Nnamdi Asomugha and Shane Lechler -- re-signed. Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly was convinced to restructure his deal. Dead weight was dropped from the roster, including: Kwame Harris, Justin Griffith, Ronald Curry, Kalimba Edwards and (maybe…?) Javon Walker. And then they had to go and cut Gibril Wilson. Why? I have no idea.

Raiders slash their roster

Over the last couple of days, the Raiders have released the following veterans: FB Justin Griffith , WR Ronald Curry , DE Kalimba Edwards and SS Gibril Wilson . All of the cuts were salary-cap based, and all of the players are now free agents.

Raiders Cut 3 Players, 2008 Offseason Was Total Failure

by Adam Gretz Filed under: Raiders , NFL Free Agency On Friday, the Oakland Raiders released safety Gibril Wilson , defensive end Kalimba Edwards and wide receiver Ronald Curry , saving the team about $6 million against the 2009 salary cap. Think back to last offseason when owner Al Davis , in an effort to return his once proud franchise to glory, was signing blank checks with a stamp and passing them...

Raiders Interested In Jackson

John Clayton of ESPN reports that the Raiders are considering signing defensive tackle Grady Jackson. This comes after signing Kalimba Edwards last week. If Oakland was able to ink Jackson, than they wouldn’t have to move defensive end Tommy Kelly to tackle, pretty much ending their pursuit of defensive linemen. If this were to happen, than in [...]

Marinelli says Lions Cason and Edwards OK

An overview of what Lions coach Rod Marinelli had to say on Saturday afternoon. Defensive end Kalimba Edwards (shoulder) and running back Aveion Cason (concussion) weren't seriously injured. He said Edwards was day-to-day and said Cason was fine. Marinelli said a report published Friday that said running back Kevin Jones would miss the first six games of the regular season was "not correct."...

If every notion you ever had turned out horribly wrong, what would you do? You'd do "The Opposite."

Today is the Detroit Lions Super Bowl, the NFL Draft. Bad things normally happen on draft day. Things like Mike Williams, Kalimba Edwards, Brian Calhoun, Joey Harrington, I need not go on. I have just one suggestion for Matt Millen, one he should heed. Follow the advice of a man who had the same track record as you, if not worse. Do what he did, it changed his life. It can change yours... Just who...
