Last time I used the relationship between Catch% and AirYards per Completion (yards per completion with yards after catch removed) to give an evaluation of WR hands over the last two seasons. Today with 8 years of data (as far back as I can find YAC info for) Catch% and AY/C remain correlated, allowing for 8 years of hands eval and an attempt at an overall WR ranking. Matthew Stafford, the No. 1 pick in this year's NFL draft, made an impressive throw toward the end of Lions practice Monday. He threaded the ball through tight coverage to receiver Keary Colbert, who bobbled it over the middle, then hauled it in behind the defense.

The Detroit Free-Press reports the Lions have brought back WR Keary Colbert , who played four games for them last season and caught five passes for 64 yards. Colbert spent four years with Carolina, then played for three teams in 2008 Denver, Seattle and Detroit. His best season was his rookie season in 2004, when he caught 47 passes for 754 yards and five touchdowns.

After working out wide receiver Keary Colbert on Wednesday, the Lions signed him on Thursday. Colbert played for the Lions toward the end of last season once the IR started to fill up. The Lions also signed running back Antone Smith of Florida State and center Dan Gerberry of Ball State. Both players attended last weekend's rookie minicamp as tryouts. The Lions will work out free agent Keary Colbert on Wednesday. Colbert finished 2008 on Detroit's roster, but wasn't re-signed.
