Final Notes for the Third and Fourth Quarter

by LM Otero - AP I would be surprised if Matt Hasselbeck makes it through this season without missing further time. View full size photo » Here's a final notes roundup for the third quarter and whatever it was that followed. Max Unger struggled playing from behind. Jason Hatcher ran through him with ease and hit Matt Hasselbeck , producing the image we see above. I cringe thinking Nate Burleson...

Marcus Trufant to be Activated from PUP list

More photos » by Ted S. Warren - AP The Truth returns. Browse more photos » Seattle's secondary approaches whole again . Jim Mora announced that Seattle will activate Marcus Trufant from the physically unable to return list. It's been almost two years since Seahawks fans could appreciate Trufant. After a breakout 2007 season, a mix of perceived weakness at stopping the run and a very real...

The Offensive Line Part 2: The Transition

This is the season Seattle lost Steve Hutchinson and the foundation of its offensive line began to crumble. Walter Jones was still among the very best at his position, but he was 32 and would turn 33 less than a week after Seattle was bumped out of the playoffs. That run was paved in part by Tim Ruskell's first ever pick, Chris Spencer , replacing an effectively retired Robbie Tobeck , and rookie Rob...

Warner ties NFL record Week 6

Kurt Warner completed 32 of 41 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns in Week 6 against the Seahawks while tying an NFL record for being the fastest to throw for 30,000 yards in a career. Arizona scored 17 points before Seattle knew what hit it in a 27-3 victory. Warner led a methodical 80-yard march to begin the game that seemed to stun Seattle. Fitzgerald jumped in front of overmatched Jordan Babineaux...

Breaston outleaps DB for TD

Cardinals WR Steve Breaston contributed a touchdown catch during a 27-3 win against the Seahawks in Week 6. Breaston jumped higher than far smaller cornerback Kelly Jennings for a 16-yard touchdown pass from Kurt Warner to put Arizona up 24-3 late in the third quarter. Breaston finished with seven catches for 77 yards. His longest catch went 22 yards and he was targeted nine times.

Darryl Giftwraps Kelly Jennings Interception, but Jennings Refuses

Kelly Jennings went Keary Colbert on a pass thrown right for him, dropping a game changing interception. Darryl Tapp forced the pressure that forced the bad pass, but despite another awesome defensive showing from Seattle, the Seahawks are again not scoring, but only winning field position.

Dear Patrick Kerney, an End Is Not a Set of Legs

More photos » by Marcio Sanchez - AP Seattle signed Patrick Kerney to a backloaded contract. His first season and through the half season that followed, he was a steal, but Kerney is getting expensive just as he is getting injured and inadequate. Browse more photos » At the end of the quarter, Nick Reed substituted for Patrick Kerney . I didn't initially notice it was Reed, but caught on...

Fifty One-liners about the Second Quarter

More photos » by John Froschauer - AP Jay Cutler musters a "yeah" before calming himself with a two-hour sad nap. Browse more photos » 50. Seattle's offensive line struggled against a still good Bears defensive line. 49. No one struggled more than Ray Willis . 48. Is 2008 Creeping Up on 2009?

More photos » by Bill Kostroun - AP Brandon Jacobs told Seahawks fans to turn off the light on 2008. Will Peyton Manning do likewise this Sunday? Browse more photos » The human mind excels at recognizing coincidence. It doesn't always analyze it very well. I had a coworker once tell me a flu shot had prevented him from getting a cold. My wife, who works with the elderly, hears "they...

Seattle Seahawks First Quarter Notes: Secondary

More photos » by John Froschauer - AP Jordan Babineaux is still a long way from being a competent free safety, but he is inexperienced and deserves patience. Browse more photos » Seattle's secondary was its weakest link on defense. Kelly Jennings was the class of the unit, disappearing and disappearing his man like he routinely did in 2007. Perhaps his brief display of ball skills in the...

Seahawks 13 - Bears 14?: Rookie Johnny Knox Runs Crossing Route, Receives and Wraps Ball Around the Pylon

More photos » by John Froschauer - AP It feels like a long time ago that David Hawthorne intercepted a Jay Cutler pass and turned this game decisively in Seattle's favor. After scoring a touchdown, the Bears are favored to win . Browse more photos » Jim Mora is challenging, but its looks good. Johnny Knox cam across the field, caught a pass and put a move on Aaron Curry to get a step towards...

Colin Cole Allows a Hole Emmitt Smith Would Envy

This hole? Zombie-Curtis Enis could run through it. How does a running back rush for 80 yards on the first play of the half? How does a team fail to adjust when that same running back broke a 75 yard run in the first half? Seattle didn't really adjust. It was again eight in the box. Kelly Jennings was manning the right end, making Seattle borderline nine in the box. The starters, minus Lofa Tatupu...

Josh Wilson Out with Ankle Injury

More photos » by Ben Margot - AP Cory Redding models the face of Seahawks football, 2008-2009. Browse more photos » Kelly Jennings has replaced Josh Wilson , as Wilson is out with an ankle injury. St. Louis Rams Lead a Long Drive to Nowhere

More photos » by Ted S. Warren - AP Marc Bulger must learn: A receiver covered by Kelly Jennings is wide open. Browse more photos » It was a long drive, spanning two quarters, but it was a boring drive that turned on a ball spot. The yellow line isn't gospel, but it should be accurate. Daniel Fells was on or over the first down marker. The refs marked him a yard short and the Twelfth Man...

West Coast Defense: Gus Bradley and Dan Quinn Tap into Seattle's Talent and Versatility

The first preseason moment that inspired the rush of discovery was Darryl Tapp dropping into cover from the end-backer position. He showed this look against San Diego in week one, and the play design and execution was superb. The power is in the details. 3-7-SD 34 (13:33) (Shotgun) 17-P.Rivers pass incomplete short middle to 80-M.Floyd (51-L.Tatupu). Seattle has overloaded the offensive left. It has...
