A year ago, Mario Henderson was so raw that he wasn't even considered an option to start at left tackle for the Oakland Raiders no matter how desperate they were to fill that gaping hole. Now following an injury to free agent acquisition Khalif Barnes, Henderson is the only option the Raiders have at that crucial position. What once would have been a frightening proposition for the Raiders is now a...

Since things will start getting a little more intense with practice tomorrow, I thought that barring some late breaking news, we'd take you into the weekend with this video. HUGE props to armchar middle distance runner for finding this over at 49ersNews.com and posting it in our all-time OT #2 post. Since I'm sure there are plenty of folks who missed out on this, I thought it was worth moving to the...

In another expected result, Jesse Sapolu ran away with the all-time center vote . In another interesting, but not entirely shocking result, Eric Heitmann grabbed 10% of the vote. Having current guys on the ballot can probably lead to some slightly skewed results. Given some of the upcoming votes, I'll be opening this up for a little more debate in the next week or so. For now though, it's time to move...

While poking around SB Nation I came across a post at Field Gulls linking to a very interesting article about holding penalties . It basically argues about the value of taking a holding penalty on a given pass play. It utilizes a whole bunch of equations that are way over my head and concludes that: The bottom line is that the probability of detection at which committing holding is worthwhile is when...

The Oakland Raiders have been plagued by a revolving door at the left tackle position in recent years, but they may have found their long-term solution in Mario Henderson. Henderson came on strong toward the end of last year and is expected to pick up right where he left off in 2009. After the now-departed Kwame Harris struggled late last year, Henderson started the final three games at left ...

Raider left tackle Mario Henderson has taken a big step forward off the field in his NFL career, signing on with super agent Drew Rosenhaus. The agent broke the news on Monday on his personal Twitter page. Henderson was a third-round pick in 2007, and played well after taking over for Kwame Harris for the [...]

The 2008 Oakland Raiders finished the season as the 29th rank in total offense and 29th in scoring with an incredibly low 263 points of which 35 of them were by way of special teams touchdowns. Even worse, the passing offense ranked 32, that's dead last folks. The rushing offense was the brighter spot ranking 10th. Fortunately in the NFL, turnarounds have become more of the norm rather than the exception...

With this coming week's final OTA, the Raiders 2009 offseason will have concluded. We then have a lull in football activity as we await the start of the 2009 season with the Raiders reporting to the training camp complex in Napa at the end of July. The only news that we can really expect is the July signings of their 2009 draft class. All the draftees are expected to be inked and in camp by the reporting...

On February 23rd, the Oakland Raiders cut tackle Kwame Harris , who signed a 3-year contract one year ago. Today, the Raiders signed Khalif Barnes , who started 57 games for the Jags, to a one-year contract. Barnes should be motivated as he plays for a new contract. Barnes has had some off-the-field issues, but he is a good fit for Oakland's zone blocking scheme and has the versatility to play left...

The Oakland Raiders top brass were doing so well. Two Pro Bowlers -- Nnamdi Asomugha and Shane Lechler -- re-signed. Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly was convinced to restructure his deal. Dead weight was dropped from the roster, including: Kwame Harris, Justin Griffith, Ronald Curry, Kalimba Edwards and (maybe…?) Javon Walker. And then they had to go and cut Gibril Wilson. Why? I have no idea.

The Oakland Raiders released veteran tackle Kwame Harris and fullback Justin Griffith on Monday, freeing more than $8 million in salary cap space. Harris, a first-round draft pick by San Francisco in 2003, joined the Raiders as a free agent last year. He would have collected a $6 million roster bonus had he remained with the team. Harris struggled late in the season with his blocking and with penalties....
