Mike Martz is denying it all the way -- and other sources say he wants the head coaching job in Buffalo, anyway -- but the Chicago Tribune is reporting that he's in line to become the Bears' offensive coordinator. The thinking there is he might be the genius who could salvage Jay Cutler, not current OC Ron Turner.

Martz, the former St. Louis Rams head coach, is an intriguing candidate because of his association with Perry Fewell, Bills starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and hot rookie safety Jairus Byrd. The source said Martz is also high on Buffalo's other quarterback, Trent Edwards.

AP Photo Conventional wisdom was that Bears head coach Lovie Smith's job is secure, at least through next season , for no other reason than that the McCaskey clan wouldn't want to pay Smith and his staff while also paying a new coach and his staff.
