In this ongoing series I'll look at which Bears players I think will need to contribute the most in 2009 for them to have a successful season. #9 Kevin Payne - Strong Safety As the most tenured safety on the Bears, Payne will be asked to fill some of the leadership void created with the loss of Mike Brown . Brown was a popular teammate, a Team Captain, but more importantly he knew the defense inside...

In this ongoing series, I'll look at which Bears I think will need to contribute the most in 2009 for them to have a successful season. Some things I thought about when compiling this list were: what potential impact they may have, how much the team will look to the individual for guidance or leadership, how badly the team would suffer if they lost the player to injury, and other intangible attributes....

Of course, it is too early to effectively try and predict who will fill the starting positions in the upcoming season, but if there is anyone who has insight to such matters, it is Larry Mayer. Training camp will will answer a lot of questions, and I'm sure that even Larry's opinion will change come August, but here is a look at what he thinks right now: OFFENSE: Jay Cutler at quarterback, Matt Forte...

This is based on the same article as the one below, but I wanted a seperate post for discussion. There is some thought that D.J. Moore could be the Bears #2 cornerback. Word is Moore’s opportunity to start would be predicated on Nathan Vasher ’s continued regression. “If Vasher doesn’t get any better, I think Moore could have a decent shot at beating out Corey Graham (as the...

We have heard many theories, rumors and speculation on what they Bears should do with their issues at the safety spot. Two of those involved moving either Charles Tillman or Nathan Vasher to that spot. Well, throw Corey Graham's name to that list. In an interview discussing the the secondary, Lovie Smith dropped Graham's name into the mix: He proceeded to rattle off the names of the safeties on the...

Nathan Vasher spoke about all the rumors floating around: "I don't feel like I'm above the rumors or speculation, just like any other player this off-season, but I'm still here. Nobody has told me anything." "Definitely I feel I am a starter, I've shown the talent. The proof is out there. I feel like people around the league know that. And I've never kept myself from feeling like that."...

In the Den Bears CB Nathan Vasher is not bothered by all the talk about his possible release. This article is a new low in journalism. It actually creates a rumor and dispels in in the same article. This one is about the Bears and Lawyer Milloy . If the Bears had any hope of drafting Darrius Heyward-Bey in this draft it might be gone. With a near 4.3 in the 40 he might have just sprinted his way out...

Is Nathan Vasher returning to the Bears next season? Many think he has grossly underachieved since receiving a big contract two seasons ago. It definitely appears that way. Vasher has only played in 12 games in the last two seasons, recording 29 tackles and only two interceptions. Jerry Angelo spoke about Vasher's future at the NFL Scouting Combine this weekend: "I don't know where he is now,...

The Chicago Bears lost starting defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek to what coach Lovie Smith called a "serious" arm injury during their 34-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night. "It isn't looking good," Smith said. The injury came a week after starting cornerback Nathan Vasher was lost for the season because of a broken hand.

Yes, it was expected. Still, losing cornerback Nathan Vasher is just going to make the Chicago Bears' goal of winning the NFC North a little bit tougher. Vasher has had his difficulties this year, but so has the defense as a whole. It's never easy to lose a starter, let alone one in charge of shutting down one of the opponents top receiving threats. Thankfully for the Bears, they're playing the Vikings,...
