Defense's goal? Get to Rodgers

49ers linebacker Parys Haralson tries to pressure Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler during last week's victory over the Bears. While the 49ers haven't piled up a lot of sacks this season, they have put a suitable amount of pressure on opposing teams' quarterbacks, says defensive coordinator Greg Manusky. Week 9 - will the real Alex Smith please stand up?

Yesterday's 34-27 loss to the Titans (the f'ing Titans, for crying out loud!!!) was just plain ugly. U-G-L-Y. After playing quite well for 3 quarters, resulting in a 20-17 lead, a meltdown of Biblical magnitude resulted in a 34-20 deficit. A late garbage touchdown made the score respectable, but a loss is still a loss. The prime architect of the meltdown was Alex Smith. He played quite well for 3 quarters....

49ers-Titans Wednesday Injury Report and practice transcript

There's nothing all that shocking in today's practice report. The 49ers are banged up as expected in certain areas, although they might be getting Reggie Smith back this week. Given the depth issues at cornerback, I'd imagine Smith might get to move around a bit on the field if he's healthy. He's listed as a safety, but he does have plenty of corner experience. I've also attached the post-practice...

Texans Five on Five: Week 7

49ers-Falcons: Defending Tony Gonzalez

More photos » by Jeff Roberson - AP Browse more photos » A few weeks back we were discussing Seattle Seahawks TE John Carlson and defending him, given his abilities. This week, the 49ers face a better tight end in a better offense, so that discussion takes on a whole new meaning. Tony Gonzalez is what John Carlson aspires to be, and the Falcons ' offense he's apart of has the ability to...

Niners Improve to 2-0

The 49 ers haven't looked this good to start a season in years, and it's got bay area football fans buzzing. The Niners improved to 2-0 after ripping the Seahawks apart in Seattle on Sunday, 23-10. Everyone wants to talk about Frank Gore after Sunday's game, and rightfully so after he rushed for 207 yards and a couple of scores, but what's really carried the Niners through the first two weeks of the...

49ers' Haralson deserved his bonus

Parys Haralson can't remember exactly how he learned that the NFL had slipped him a bonus of $241,000, more than half his 2008 salary, in March as a reward for contributing well above his pay grade. "I forget, think I just saw the check stub," he said. "It...

Niners Upset Arizona in the Desert

Nobody outside of the 49ers locker room really expected the 49ers to beat the reigning NFC champs in their own backyard, but Mike Singletary's bunch came to play on Sunday, and really caused havoc on Cardinals high-powered passing attack. If you would have told me before the game that Frank Gore would rush for just 30 yards and the Niners would pull off the upset, I would have called you crazy, but...
