Brady facing rookie DBs in Week 9

The Patriots host the Dolphins in Week 9, and New England QB Tom Brady will be salivating at the fact Miami is starting two rookie DBs in Vontae Davis and Shaun Smith . A third rookie, Chris Clemons , could also feature in nickel and dime packages. Brady is aiming for his third consecutive game with three or more touchdowns vs. Miami and has nine touchdowns in his past two games against the Dolphins....

Browns Neglect to Give James Davis Pads During Drill. Davis' Shoulder Goes Boom.

The Browns emerged triumphant on Sunday against the Bills, or as triumphant as you can be winning by a score of 6-3 when your starting quarterback completes only two of 17 pass attempts. The rare bright spot in this grim season won't get a chance to buoy the mood in Cleveland long, as more horror stories of dysfunction come out of Browns practice. Rookie running back James Davis, who many observers...

Did Lions know Shaun Smith would be suspended?

Hmmm. The Lions made veteran defensive tackle Shaun Smith their most surprising cut Saturday when they reduced the roster to the 53-man limit. Now ESPN.com reports Smith has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL's anabolic steroids policy. Obviously you have to wonder if the Lions knew or had an inkling Smith would be suspended. We'll ask after practice. UPDATE: Not...

Tuesday Notes: Grady Jackson Case "Still Under Review"

Tom Kowalski is reporting that Grady Jackson has not been suspended yet. I stress the last word of that sentence, because the case is apparently still under review. Here's a great stat from Nicholas Cotsonika : 31 players on the 53-man roster weren't part of last year's 0-16 season. Jason Hanson is almost fully recovered and is going to spend this week shaking off the rust. Jim Schwartz commented on...

Evaluating the Lions' 53-Man Roster

With the final round of cuts and what appears to be all of the waiver claims out of the way, it's time to take a look at what the Lions ' 53-man roster looks like. Before I get to that, though, let's examine who has been cut in the last few days to help get the roster down to 53 players. Cut on Saturday: QB Brooks Bollinger - No surprise here. He looked good against Buffalo, but the Lions brought him...
