Ratliff said video of the Chiefs games showed that long snapper Thomas Gafford was slow to raise up after releasing the ball. With that in mind, the Cowboys coaching staff instructed Ratliff to leap over Gafford. Ratliff did just that after Gafford snapped the ball with 3:15 left and the score tied 13-13. Thomas Gafford never saw Jay Ratliff jump over him on the way to making one of the game’s crucial plays Sunday. Gafford just heard the sickening thud that told him Ryan Succop’s 53-yard field-goal attempt, one that would have given the Chiefs a three-point lead with just more than 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter, was blocked by Ratliff.

The Kansas City Chiefs released long snapper Tanner Purdum today. We heard the news via Josh Looney ( of Twitter ?). The Mothership has the official announcement here . Purdum was originally signed on April 7th. He was a four year letterman with Baker and coached receivers at the University last year. The Chiefs also brought back long snapper Thomas Gafford .
