After a long, grueling training camp and preseason, some players will no longer be Miami Dolphins as of 4 pm eastern on Saturday. The Dolphins went into Thursday's preseason finale with 66 players on their roster. They must be down to 53 players by the 4 pm deadline. Below is my final roster prediction. I've included some explanations after my prediction. Check it out and then tell us your final predictions....

I have done extensive viewing on our first three preseason games and we look good on The D Line. I would like to explain what I mean by extensive viewing, I watch the game straight through once and then I go back and watch it again, but this time I rewind every play to look at each player, which means I watch every play about seven times, and yes, it takes a while. First I will rank the players, Probowl...

We're now less than one week away from the final round of cuts that will finalize, for the time being, the Dolphins' 53-man roster. That means a number of those "roster bubble players" have less than a week and just one preseason game to prove they belong on the roster come next week. Therefore, it's time to update the "bubble watch" for the final time this preseason. While in past...

So we're now halfway through the preseason. And we've already seen the ax drop down for several players. With the recent roster moves by the Dolphins, it seems like a good time to update our "depth chart bubble watch." The idea behind this is simple - to put together a projected 53-man roster and to highlight which players I feel are on pace to just barely make the team and which just miss...

With one preseason game in the books and another just days away, the depth chart is starting to come a little bit more into focus. So I figured it's time to update the "depth chart bubble watch" to reflect what we saw on the field on Monday night. Again, just incase you haven't seen this before, the idea behind it is simple - to put together a projected 53-man roster and to highlight which...

We're now well into training camp and just days away from the first preseason game of the year. And this means it's time to once again update the "depth chart bubble watch" with the latest developments from camp. We are now almost a week into training camp and even though it's still far too early to read into any developments just yet, it's always fun to speculate. So I figured it's time to bust out the second edition of the "depth chart bubble watch." The idea behind it is simple - to put together a projected 53-man roster and to highlight which players I feel are on pace to just barely make the...

One of the more popular features here during training camp last year was my "March Madness" kind of spin on laying out the potential depth chart each week. I say it was "March Madness-esque" because of how I format it - including a list of who I think are the final five players on the roster and the final five off of the roster. The idea behind it wasn't so much to nail down the...

Phillip Merling will be asked to step up and fill the void left by the release of Vonnie Holliday. View full size photo uploaded July 23, 2009 So far we've looked at the receiver position and the tight end position in our 2009 training camp primers. Today we'll flip to the defensive side of the ball for the first time and focus our attention on the defensive line. Despite the large number of defensive...

With Vonnie Holliday gone, there's pressure on the Dolphins' young defensive ends, including three 2008 draft picks. Some buzz: Phillip Merling, drafted 32nd overall, showed glimpses as a rookie (including his 25-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Jets) and said he has been running with the first team all offseason. But ''there is some good competition with Randy Starks and Tony McDaniel,''...

With the announcement of the compensatory picks yesterday, we now know the official 2009 NFL Draft order in its entirety. We also know which of Miami's three 7th round picks the Dolphins sent to Jacksonville in exchange for DT Tony McDaniel - who, by the way, will work as a defensie end in Miami's 3-4 defense to start with. It was pick 232 - or Miami's second 7th round pick. So here are all of the...

He's definitely big enough to play nose in a 3-4...With hard coaching though, he might turn out to be that gem Del Rio envisioned. -Jaguars beat writer Michael Wright, on new Dolphins DT Tony McDaniel.
