More photos » by Jeff Chiu - AP Browse more photos » After enough requests, now seemed as good a time as any to roll out a Greg Manusky Approval Rating poll. We don't have a graphic for it yet, but I'll work on that. For those who didn't know, Football Outsiders posts weekly DVOA ratings for offenses and defenses, and the 49ers are second in the NFL in total defensive DVOA. They stand third...

Bumped. GO BRUINS. - N Photo Credit: AP Photo/Paul Sakuma This may very well be a longer post than any of you wish to read, but please bear with me while I suck up a little before telling you a little bit about the team you're going up against this week. As has been mentioned, Stanford doesn't have a solid blogosphere dedicated to the football team. The few faithful we have tend to be older than the...

Shawntae Spencer was as surprised as anybody when he opened the regular season as the starting right cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers. But there was nothing surprising about the way he played during the 20-16 win against the Arizona Cardinals in Spencer's first start since 2007. Spencer held up strong against the receiver tandem of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin and helped contain an Arizona...

Week one is officially under wraps and wouldn't you know it, it was a genuinely great week of football. Not just for the 49ers and their victory, I just enjoyed every game I watched. I mean, I was disappointed that the Raiders played decent but it was still a good game. Did anyone else feel the entire Buffalo Bills fan base cry out "Not agaaain!" collectively? I sure did. Still, what about...

Dre' Bly joined the San Francisco 49ers to fill some serious shoes. The Niners secondary took a big blow before training camp when it lost veteran Walt Harris for the season as he recovers from knee surgery, which put the former Pro Bowl player's career in jeopardy. Yet suddenly, the secondary is setting up to be one of the bright spots for an experienced defense that's on the rise. Coach Mike Singletary...

I'm guessing this is gonna kill our lone Babatunde Oshinowo fan: According to Barrows Twitter page, the 49ers released Oshinowo and signed wide receiver Chris Francies . Francies went undrafted in 2006, signed as a free agent with the Green Bay Packers and spent 2008 on the New Orleans Saints practice squad. Given the extended downtime for Brandon Jones , Francies isn't much more than a camp body....

NFL Training Camp is in full swing league-wide, but the 49ers are not yet practicing with their top pick from April's draft. Michael Crabtree and the 49ers are in fact still a ways off in their negotiation for Crabtree's first NFL contract. Apparently Crabtree wants to be paid like a top-5 pick since that's what kind of value he's bringing, while the Niners are trying to ink him to a deal more along...

Good morning everyone, James here reporting for duty with another edition of the Golden Nuggets. The 49ers announced today that they have officially placed Walt Harris on the Injured Reserve list for his ACL injury. Additionally, Ricky Jean-Francois has been placed on the non-football illness list. The Harris move is certainly not a surprise. After all, unless you're Jerry Rice, you don't come back from an ACL injury the same year it happened. As for our man RJF's illness (I guess Frenchie is...

With NFL Training Camp starting up in about a month, teams are starting to put the final pieces to their teams together. A couple weeks back, both the 49ers and Raiders added some veteran help to their respective defense's. After receiving news that Walt Harris, their starting cornerback for the last three years, would likely miss the season, the 49ers went out and grabbed veteran cover man, Dre' Bly....

The safety position has seen a fair amount of turmoil this offseason ranging from the waiving of Jimmy Williams to the injury issues already arising, most notably Reggie Smith . Smith was drafted as a cornerback but has officially made the switch to the safety, even with the injury to Walt Harris . The 49ers secondary has numerous depth issues, but there is a good chance they could be resolved by Week...
