Wes Welker's presence shapes what goes on

FOXBORO - When Wes Welker was a surprise scratch prior to facing the New York Jets in Week 2, it created pandemonium in the fantasy football world, as owners scrambled to...

It’s Not Just the Coverage, It’s the Blitzing Too

Just a reminder that with Wes Welker healthy, things will be different for the Jets. Not just because Tom Brady has another receiver, but because it will help him avoid the big hits from the Jets blitzers. While Brady was not sacked, he was hit 21 times, often finding himself running for cover. Edelman stepped in [...]

Transcripts: The Coordinators, Week 11

The three coordinators took their turns at the podium Thursday. On whether Justin Miller can play defense, covering Wes Welker, the no-huddle, how to get Sanchez started quicker in-game, Ahmad Carroll’s “average” play and much more. New York Jets Defensive Coordinator Mike Pettine, 11.19 On Justin Miller improving… I’m sure he was working out when he wasn’t on [...]...

Here's what Colts are missing

The Indianapolis Colts' excellent run in special teams coverage suffered a setback when New England's Wes Welker broke a 67-yard punt return last week.

Restructured for rematch

Back in September, Joey Galloway was taking snaps at receiver and Wes Welker was on the bench with a knee injury when the Patriots played the Jets.

Leonhard, Gholston sit

The Jets returned to work today, preparing for Sunday's must-win game (where have we heard that before?) at the Patriots. Only two players missed practice: S Jim Leonhard (thumb surgery) and LB Vernon Gholston (hamstring). As Rex Ryan noted Monday, Leonhard is unlikely to play Sunday. From what I've been told, they may not know for sure how long he will be sidelined until late this week. Eric Smith...

Random thoughts for the day

Ok so I'm gonna take the chance to share some random musings from around the NFL , the web, and anywhere else I can dig up something of note. -- I still think Belichick made the wrong the call, but it was much closer than I previously imagined. I've seen some film of the play from a high angle and what is clear is that Brady blew it. His O-line was using slide protection to the right, so at the snap...

Colts-Patriots redux

We all saw. No need to wax poetic. Let's get to the second-take observations: * Joseph Addai runs right for 4 yards on the opening play, but then the Colts are content to throw quick and underneath on the next two plays and come up short. It's as if they expected blitzes and thought they could catch the Patriots in something. Pierre Garcon drops a pass on a bang-bang, ball arrives and he gets hit....

Game Recap: Colts defeat Patriots, 35-34

Belichick was Right (and Personal Finance Links)

Do we have any football fans in the house? If you aren't a fan, just skip down to the links. If you are a fan, hopefully you caught the Patriots-Colts' "Rivalry of the Decade" game. Whenever these teams get together it's always comes down to the wire. As a Patriots [...] Related posts: Financial Football Teaches Students about Personal Finance When New England Patriot wide receiver Wes Welker...

Chargers smoke Eagles, 31-23, stick a fork in the Birds, they’re done….

I hate to be so down after a tough loss…. truly, there were good things to be appreciated. Like WR Jason Avant being rediscovered in the offense as possibly the next best slot receiver to Wes Welker, with nearly 150 yards in receiving… or WR Reggie Brown showing up with some key catches throughout the [...]

Nine catches for Welker

Beating the Patriots just got a little harder

More photos » by Steven Senne - AP Browse more photos » As you may have seen in shake's injury report post (now updated with the Pats report -shake) , we see a number of Patriots "returning" to practice. I take this with a grain of salt as the players were noticed at the media portion of practice; the rest of practice is closed to all but team personnel, so whether or not they're...

Bucs could be in line for second straight win Sunday

More photos » by Tom Hevezi - AP Raheem Morris and Co. could be in line for their second consecutive win when they travel to Miami on Sunday. Browse more photos » It’s easy to ride the emotional high from a fourth-quarter comeback. It’s painless to lean on optimism and say the Buccaneers are on to something. But it’s naive to simply pencil in a "W" as the Bucs...

Patriots rout Buccaneers 35-7 at Wembley

WEMBLEY, England – A trans-Atlantic trip couldn't slow down Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Brady threw three touchdown passes and had more than 300 yards as the Patriots (5-2) beat the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-7 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in the NFL's third regular-season game at the iconic London venue. For the Bucs, who gave up a home game to play in London, the new surroundings...
