Having some room on the roster with Brandon McGowan being lost for the year, the Bears have brought linebacker Joey LaRocque up from the practice squad . LaRocque won't see any time at LB, but is likley to immediately find a home on special teams where he is considered a force. The minimum for practice squad players is $5,200 per week, which is less than a third of what first-year players earn on...

* Bears lead all time series 35-17. * With Danieal Manning sliding into Brandon McGowan's role, the Bears may opt to keep Hunter Hillenmeyer in on passing plays instead of bringing in another defensive back. If the Bears do go with a CB it will likely be Corey Graham. * With the status of Devin Hester still up in the air, rookie Earl Bennett has been getting prepped to be the team's main punt returner....

As rahulsriram first posted in the Fan Post section, Bears safety Brandon McGowan is out for the season . What was originally thought to be a sprained ankle ended up requiring season ending surgery to repair. It’s McGowan’s third serious injury since joining the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He started the final three games of his rookie year but tore his ACL in the finale. After spending...

1st half studs: Matt Forte - Hasn't scored, but kept drives alive and milked the clock. Kyle Orton - He gets it because he hasn't done anything to lose the game for us. Brandon Lloyd - Slowly shaking the "best practice player" reputation. 1st half duds: Brandon McGowan - Come on bro, two illegal blocks on ST? You're better than that. Greg Olsen - Really only putting him here because no one else has...

Bears safety Kevin Payne has been named the starting strong safety for the team, ahead of safety Brandon McGowan. "I'm just happy I got an opportunity to go out there and show what I can do," Payne said. "Now I am just ready to go out and help the team. It's a blessing to be able to start." Brandon McGowan will probably move over to nickel back, in front of Daniel Manning.

Bears coach Lovie Smith vowed to make the next few practices more like training camp, with his players competing for positions. It that's the case, it could set off a fierce battle at strong safety between Brandon McGowan and Kevin Payne heading into the regular season.

When Chris Williams underwent surgery last week most thought it was only a matter of time before John Tait found himself back on duty on the left side, but it seems the Bears are not planning on making that move . 'I just look at how they are playing. I don't look at the number of starts or who played where,'' Hiestand said. ''We are different every year. You are different, I am different. You don't...

McGowan scare could open door for Bears' reserves The sight of Brandon McGowan sprawled on the ground with a sore ankle Monday no doubt caused the Bears to ponder their depth at the safety position, even if coach Lovie Smith declined to acknowledge it.

Bears first round pick, Chris Williams, should not be affected by and I quote "short arms". Tommie Harris, Brian Urlacher and Cedric Benson all no-showed OTAS. Matt Forte ran with the second team , Rod Wilson started at MLB, Mike Brown started at free safety and Brandon McGowan started at strong safety. After reviewing Robbie Gould's contract it turns out he is only the second highest paid kicker,...

The Chicago Bears released veteran strong safety Adam Archuleta on Tuesday, ending a brief and disappointing tenure with the team. Archuleta, 30, broke a hand early last season and started in just 10 of the 15 games in which he appeared. He lost his starting job to Brandon McGowan and finished the season on special teams. The Bears drafted LSU safety Craig Steltz in the fourth round of last month,...

Mike Mulligan had an interview with Lovie Smith and some interesting things came out. Smith projected that Mike Brown will be the starting free safety. Presumably, that means Danieal Manning is out of a job and Brandon McGowan and Kevin Payne will battle for the strong safety job. Smith reiterated John Tait could be moved from left tackle to right tackle depending on what kind of personnel is added....
