After the Lions' 34-7 loss to Chicago on Sunday, defensive tackle Cory Redding dressed quickly at his locker. Redding, a team captain who is adept at breaking down how the defense played, pulled on his clothes and walked past a thicket of microphones. Redding and the defense haven't stopped anyone this season, and now Redding wasn't stopping for anyone.

Lions defensive tackle Cory Redding didn't even have to think about his chances of playing Sunday at San Francisco. He knew. "There ain't no 'think' about it," Redding said after practice Friday. "I'm playing, definitely. I'm playing."

“This is a long season — don’t be trying to write us off…I’m telling you, we’re good. It just didn’t show up today. This is a huge wake-up call for us.” - Cory Redding So let’s just lay this out. Okay Detroit? You’re supposed to take this lightly. It’s not a big deal. I mean, don’t sweat [...]

Filed under: Lions My favorite thing about the Detroit Lions -- the team I grew up cheering for as a kid in Plymouth, Michigan -- is the way they absolutely refuse to admit how bad they are. A team that admits it sucks would take action to correct said suckitude. It would, say, fire the general manager who has driven the team into the ground for the last eight years . But not the Lions. No, the Lions...

The Lions announced who their 2008 team captains are earlier today and they are no different than 2007. Quarterback Jon Kitna, center Dominic Raiola, defensive tackle Cory Redding, linebacker Ernie Sims, and kicker Jason Hanson will serve as this season's captains as voted on by their teammates and coaches. The five players were also captains last season. This is the second season where captains will...

I think everybody's played well, well enough to get the job done on both sides of the ball. Speaking for the defense the starters, we go out and we set the tone. We establish running to the ball, putting all 11 hats on the ball, however many plays we were in there. When we get out we tell them the second or third string guys go out there and play like your starters, and that's what they did and made...

Drew Stanton, Jason Hanson, Dan Campbell, and Cory Redding will not play against the Browns this afternoon. There's no point to risk bringing Hanson back too soon, so that move makes perfect sense. Campbell hasn't even practiced yet I believe, so obviously he's not going to play. And as far as Redding's status goes, he's still nursing a ribs injury. Expect Lions starters to play more than they have...

As Cory Redding and Kalvin Pearson came onto the field Monday morning, they heralded the arrival of the Lions' "new guy." Who was that No. 27? Oh, yeah. Daniel Bullocks. Been a long time.

I was going to have this post up earlier today to talk about yesterday's practice, but my Internet stopped working and I didn't get the post up in time before going to the scrimmage today. Because of that, this post will discuss the happenings from both Friday and Saturday. Beginning with Friday first, the Lions had a full practice in the morning and a special teams session in the afternoon. Both...

Lions coach Rod Marinelli says he has a lean team, and the numbers back him up. No one has been fined for being overweight entering training camp. No one on the defensive line is over 300 pounds. "That was huge for the D-line," defensive tackle Cory Redding said. "We just have to stay fit, keep our cardio up, sprint to the ball."

NOTEBOOK: Defensive coordinator Joe Barry said linebacker Ernie Sims and defensive tackle Cory Redding had minor shoulder surgeries this off-season. He said it was "totally precautionary" that they weren't practicing in minicamp. They will be reevaluated June 1. "They had some little bumps and bruises from the season they got fixed," Barry said. "If it was training camp, if we were getting ready to...

After landing the franchise tag and a contract extension last offseason, Lions DL Cory Redding amassed 37 total tackles, one pass defensed and one sack. The Lions see that Redding isn't finishing as fast as they'd like him to.
