Filed under: Lions Now that the Lions have finally listened to the fans' " Fire Millen " chants, it's time for the paying customers in Detroit to have a new target for their rage. Today it was starting quarterback Jon Kitna , who played horribly early on, completing 8 of 16 passes for 76 yards. Kitna was finally benched early in the second half, and Lions fans gave his replacement, Dan Orlovsky ,...

Mike Martz: He won the grudge match that neither coaching staff supposedly cared about, with an offense that controlled the game. J.T. O'Sullivan: He ran Martz's offense, passing for 189 yards and two touchdowns. A bit of a drop-off, you think, the Lions going from O'Sullivan to Dan Orlovsky as their backup QB?

Many fans are calling for the Lions to bench Jon Kitna, and although I really can't disagree that his three interceptions on three straight drives is uncalled for, do you really think Dan Orlovsky would be any better? Once Drew Stanton is healthy again (supposedly at the start of October), I can understand benching Kitna for him if the season is already over, but for right now, at least, Kitna sadly...

Gus Johnson's play by play call? The man could make a sewing circle sound exciting. I want Gus Johnson calling every game I watch. Dan Orlovsky's block taking out 2 Browns? Let's make him the lead blocker on all running plays. Or Kevin Smith's marvelous run? (Hopefully You Tube won't pull this clip, but the NFL media gestapo are everywhere) It's about time the Detroit Lions had a running back capable...

Quarterback Dan Orlovsky went 8-for-11 for 81 yards. Quarterback Drew Stanton, making his debut after spending his rookie season on injured reserve, went 5-for-6 for 27 yards. He also led the Lions in rushing with six carries for 26 yards (including three kneel-downs for minus-one each to end the game).

Filed under: Lions , NFC North It's the most talked about story of the NFL offseason. The fateful future of a certain NFC North quarterback. I'm talking, of course, about Dan Orlovsky . The Lions' backup is entering a contract year, and while he's never going to break the bank, he realizes that 2008 might very well set the course for the rest of his career. "I'm not dumb," Orlovsky said Tuesday. "I...

Dan Orlovsky doesn't want to make too big a deal out of it. It's just a game. It isn't the end of the world. He needs to stay within himself and not try to do too much to impress everyone.

Killer Kowalski’s latest WDFN interview is up at Mlive. Cliff notes version, Calvin Johnson is impressing the Hell out of him and Dan Orlovsky is clearly outplaying Drew Stanton in the competition to backup Jon Kitna: I’m not sure if I should be happy Orlovsky is finally stepping up, or be bitterly disappointed in Stanton, as [...]

Dan Orlovsky has the edge over Drew Stanton in the Lions' backup quarterback competition. But it's early, and both have a long way to go.

Dan Orlovsky is leading in the competition for the Lions' backup quarterback job. But both he and Drew Stanton have a long way to go. They have looked inconsistent through the first five practices of training camp.

It's things like this that just make me want to shake my head. The Lions reportedly are interested in Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms. Yes, the Chris Simms that is fifth on the Buccaneers' depth chart. Fifth! Would he be an upgrade over Drew Stanton? Maybe. Over Dan Orlovsky? Probably. But why the Lions would even think about trading for Simms is beyond me. He is a mediocre quarterback at best....
